Base Pay Range: USD $29.62 - $38.62 / hr based on work experience ( CAD$ 40.81 - 53.21/hr)

Job Description:

The OB Registered Nurse is responsible for the direct and indirect total nursing care of the patients on his/her assigned unit during a given period of time. This predominantly includes obstetrical patients and newborns during pregnancy, labor, delivery and postpartum periods.
Responsibilities Include:
- RN is also reponsible for the delegation and supervision of personnel assigned to him/her.
- The RN has the responsibilty and accountability for prescribing, delegating and coordinating all nursing care provided in the Childbirth Center.
- The RN prescribes nursing care for patients based on the nursing process. The RN coordinates both the nursing care provided to patients and the nursing care provided in conjunction with therapies directed by other disciplines.
- The RN will assess the health related needs of the patient, plan health care goals, implement therapeutic activites and evaluate the effectiveness of care given.
- The RN provides leadership on the assigned unit in the coordination and delivery of nursing care.
- The RN is responsible for adhering to all standards of the hospital and nursing service department for managing supplies and equipment with the direction of the RN in charge of the unit and for promoting teamwork with physicians and personnel of other departments.
- The RN is generally assigned one specific shift and unit but may be required to cover other shifts and units as the need arises.
- The scope of maternity nursing involves not only helping the mother have a safe, healthy infant, but also helping parents understand the birth process, teaching them to care for their newborn infant and preparing to meet the future demands as parents.

- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing is required.
- Current license to practice profession in the State of Texas (Flint will assist with this).
- Ability to read, write and speak English (Flint will help with this).
- One or more years’ nursing experience in Behavioral Health service is preferred.

- Attends 85% of mandatory meetings (forums and identified in-services)

- Demonstrates compliance with established infection control/universal precautions policies and procedures
- Demonstrates patient safety by utilizing two patient identifiers for every patient/every time
- Reports care concerns or recognitions using appropriate channels including the incident report system
- Performs safe, rapid, and accurate triage of each patient and determines priorities of care based on physical and psychococial needs as well as factors influencing patient flow through the Childbirth Center.
- Demonstrates knowledge of standard concepts, practices and procedures within the scope of obstetric and neonatal nursing and performs a variety of nursing interventions and tasks depending upon patient needs.
- Demonstrates basic knowledge of Electronic Fetal Monitoring interpretation and recognizes and intervenes appropriately.
- Demonstrates competency and assertiveness in the assessment and management of patients during labor, delivery, and postpartum and provides safe initial and ongoing care of the newborn.
- Demonstrates a wide degree of initiative, flexibility, and responsibility with a minimum of supervison.
