PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY
Set up, change over and maintain packaging machines for efficient and safe operation. Will be assigned specific packaging line(s) and be responsible for line reliability elements. Provide technical expertise and support for equipment setup, troubleshooting and repair to ensure minimum unscheduled downtime.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
- Follow cGMP and safety SOPs.
- Observe all safety rules, practices, and procedures in the performance of duties.
- Prepare machines for operation and shutdowns as required.
- Set-up and change over packaging equipment using setup documentation, replacing change-parts and making adjustments.
- Follow and maintain centerline documentation for packaging equipment.
- Return all changeover parts to their proper storage location. Inspect all parts before storage for defects and cleanliness.
- After set-up, change over and downtime, leave all machines and equipment clean and in good operating condition.
- Follow and participate in 5S.
- Perform repairs as required.
- Physical adjustments to electrical switches and sensors when required.
- Report required maintenance to Reliability Leader and enter maintenance work requests in CMMS.
- Perform preventative and on demand maintenance to obtain optimum performance of packaging equipment.
- Record mechanical work in equipment logs as required by departmental SOPs.
- Verify operation of equipment after each intervention.
- Provide technical support to the line operations staff through effective and timely equipment troubleshooting and corrective actions.
- Assist in the development of packaging set-up instructions and changeover techniques to improve productivity and reduce downtime.
- Communicate across all teams and to the Reliability Leader any centerline outages or changes that may affect changeovers or the reliability of a piece of equipment.
- Work with Maintenance Mechanics and other set-up mechanics while performing assigned tasks
- Perform other duties as directed.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Post-Secondary in a mechanical or electrical field would be considered an asset.
- Experience as a Packaging Line Technician/Set-Up Operator/Mechanic
- The ability to communicate with leadership and fellow employees.
- Ability to understand and frequently refer to equipment manuals, working drawings, etc.
- Must be able to pass a mechanical aptitude test.
