Job Summary:
The Assembler is responsible for the final assembly of fabricated metal parts and components in a welding fabrication environment. This role ensures parts are correctly fitted, aligned, and assembled according to technical specifications while maintaining safety, quality, and production standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work instructions to assemble metal components.
- Align, position, and fit parts together using hand tools, clamps, and fixtures.
- Perform mechanical fastening, bolting, and installation of subassemblies and hardware.
- Inspect parts and components for proper fit, finish, and functionality before final release.
- Operate basic fabrication tools and machinery such as drills, grinders, and saws.
- Maintain work area cleanliness and organization.
- Collaborate with welders, fitters, and Operations Manager to ensure assembly accuracy and workflow.
- Report any defective parts, material shortages, or safety concerns to the Lead Hand or Operations Manager.
- Assist with packaging, labeling, or staging of completed assemblies for delivery or further processing.
- Support other tasks and projects as required by management.
- Support Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
General Shop Duties
- Operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and other material-handling equipment
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area
- Perform routine maintenance on tools
Safety
- Follow all workplace safety rules and procedures
- Always Use appropriate PPE (steel-toe boots, welding helmet, gloves, etc.)
- Report any hazards, incidents, or near misses to the supervisor
- Comply with all company safety policies and government regulations (e.g., OHSA in Ontario)
Qualifications:
- Experience in mechanical or metal component assembly (3 years preferred).
- Ability to read technical drawings and follow verbal/written instructions.
- Familiarity with hand and power tools.
- Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity.
- Basic understanding of workplace safety and quality control.
- Ability to lift and handle heavy parts (up to 50 lbs).
- Strong communication and time management skills.
- Knowledge of ISO standards or quality system requirements.
- Team-oriented, reliable, and punctual.
Work Environment:
- Industrial shop environment with moderate to high noise levels.
- Exposure to hot surfaces, sharp edges, and metal debris.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand or bend for periods during assembly tasks
- Required use of CSA-approved personal protective equipment (PPE): Safety boots, Gloves, Safety glasses, Hearing protection
