Reporting directly to the Division President, the Director, Design Studio for our Greater Toronto East Division will lead and oversee all aspects of Design Studio operations; ensure Homeowners are offered a full range of options and selections to personalize their homes, while ensuring adherence to operating budgets. The Director, Design Studio will analyze revenues and ERP reports (JDE) to ensure maximum customer satisfaction and profitability targets through measurement and focus on continuous process improvement.

In addition, this role will lead, develop, inspire and manage the Design Studio team to achieve business and individual performance objectives, meet customer expectations, and in strive to achieve “The Best Homeowner Experience” in all activities undertaken.

Responsibilities

With the VP, Finance, clarify and set expectations on Design Studio sales profitability and customer satisfaction targets and create aggressive yet attainable action plans to ensure that these are met.

Accountable for delivery of:
Excellence in customer service
Build an inventory of quality products that reflect current market trends
Deliver an effective price/value proposition in the eyes of the Homeowner
Continuous improvement initiatives
Using JDE reporting capabilities, analysis of sales results versus targets and development of action plans based on results.
Consults with the Contracts Department to develop supplier programs to encourage sales and motivate the sales team.
Maintain relationships with suppliers and work with purchasing department to ensure that Mattamy’s Design Studio offers leading edge products within the building industry.
Work with Construction Department to ensure scheduling of appointments meet production timelines
Oversee daily operations including communication with other departments to ensure community construction staff receives accurate and timely delivery of information to meet production deadlines.
Follow-up with Construction staff to ensure execution of product delivery i.e. product supplied is consistent with customer expectation of product sold.
Ensure Design Studio Showroom has a full complement of qualified employees to manage the needs of the business at all times.
Provide support and guidance to Design Consultants
Manage back office support of Design Consultants to ensure timelines are being maintained.
Identify training needs and source training and development opportunities to be created whether internally or externally.
Oversee orientation program for new employees and organize product knowledge sessions on an ongoing basis.
Communicate effectively with customers to ensure common understanding in delivering their needs and expectations.
Ensure Design Studio is maintained in pristine condition.
Oversee the planning, design, construction and setup for the Design Studio showroom and aesthetic, keeping up to date with current trends and showcasing design options
Stay abreast of general retail/marketing and customer service trends and their applicability to the business. Conduct appropriate analysis of these trends, make recommendations and execute where appropriate.
Lead communication sessions with other Mattamy Design Studio Directors and Managers to share and implement best practice ideas encouraging a culture of continuous improvement.
Manage all Design Studio and Open House operations, including organizing the Open House Associates scheduling for evening and weekend hours.
Managing escalated questions/issues from Homeowners
Maintaining full knowledge of included and optional design options on all active communities
Superior ability to train and advise team to assist Homeowners with understanding colour selections, identify customer needs in style and individual requirements and answer design related questions to prepare them for their design appointment with a Design Consultant
Responsible for Design Studio Product Inventory

What You Bring

Completion of Interior Design, Interior Decorating and/or Architecture diploma or degree program.
Completion of Marking/Retail Management degree or diploma considered an asset.
Design Courses or background an asset.
Minimum 5 years’ experience managing a team in a design/retail environment with a strong focus on sales and customer service.
Experience analyzing sales revenues, interpreting and working with ERP Reporting systems (JDE preferred)
Must have strong Customer Service management skills in a dynamic and changing business environment
Skilled in team building with both internal and external service providers.
Bottom line focus on sales results.
Knowledge of construction practices an asset
Must have passion for design and homeowner options, trends and décor styles
Must have demonstrable relentless commitment to customer service
Strong initiative and focus on continual improvement
Superior communication skills - both verbal and written
Professionalism and previous experience in a Corporate environment required
Creative thinker with keen eye for colour and design.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Strong computer literacy with experience in MS Office applications including PowerPoint
Ability to lead, inspire, motivate and build high performance teams in a fast paced environment.
