The GVFB provides assistance to approximately 15,000 people monthly across Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster and the North Shore. We also provide food support to 150 agencies such as housing agencies, women and children’s shelters, transition homes and after school programs, which in turn provide hot meals and snacks to thousands of people each week, including people who are unhoused.
Our mission is providing healthy food to those in need. Our vision is to create healthy communities through fair and effective food systems. Currently, the GVFB distributes 8.9 M lbs of food each year.

This is a full-time, permanent position, with the opportunity to learn and grow. The successful candidate can expect a Living Wage based salary of $50,068 annually.
Our competitive benefit plan includes extended healthcare and dental, and a Group Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) where employees are matched up to 7% of their contributions. The Shipper/Receiver loads, unloads and stores palletized goods with a variety of warehousing equipment, including electric pallet jacks, counterbalanced forklifts and reach trucks. They are responsible for maintaining a high level of accuracy in recording product information and movements in the warehouse’s digital system. The Shipper/Receiver is expected to assist in other warehousing duties such as organization and upkeep of the warehouse; order building; and assisting the Distribution and Agencies teams as necessary. This position requires a robust understanding of warehousing and inventory management. A positive attitude, excellent communication skills, flexibility, and a willingness to learn are key elements for success in this role.

Inspect, weigh, and count inbound and outbound shipments; accurately recording all product movements in the warehouse’s digital inbound/outbound system;

Stage and load completed outbound orders into trucks;

Receive and unload inbound deliveries into inventory, liaising with warehouse associates for support as necessary;

Uphold best practices in food handling and safe operation of machinery;

Maintain a friendly, professional presence at the shipping/receiving area for all deliveries and visitors;

Ensure functional areas are kept clean, tidy, and organized at all times;

Support the Distribution and Agencies teams with product movements and setup;
-
As necessary, assist the Warehouse Lead and Warehouse Assistant Manager in executing process changes.

Qualifications and Experience
-
1+ years of experience operating industrial machinery in a warehouse environment, including experience operating at least two of the following: electric pallet jacks, counterbalanced forklifts, and reach trucks

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, and iOS (iPhone)

Previous experience with warehouse or inventory management systems is an asset

A BC Class 5 driving license and ability to provide 3 years Insurance Claims History and 3 years clean Driver’s Abstract is an asset as there is opportunity to receive training on relief driving duties
Physical Requirements (if applicable)

Exposure to ambient temperatures and noisy conditions;

Proper safety footwear required with reimbursements provided following probationary period;

Bending and lifting boxes up to 50 lbs on a regular basis;

Ability to physically operate and handle both a manual and electric pallet jack.
