Please note: Job requires shifts, on-call, standby and occasional call-back to provide technical support to ministry critical systems on a 24 hour, 7 days a week basis.

What can I expect to do in this role?

As a Database Administrator, you will:
  • act as a technical expert to provide specialized database expertise to client groups and support senior application developers;
  • provide strategic direction for new projects, systems recovery, contingency and day-to-day activities;
  • lead corporate database design and development projects;
  • recommend data management strategies to clients; and
  • provide support to resolve complex and unique database management issues
How do I qualify?
Technical Knowledge
  • you are efficient, knowledgeable and experienced with Oracle Enterprise Databases, Oracle RAC, Oracle Exadata, Oracle Data guard, Oracle advanced features and OEM
  • you have experience with MS SQL server and other databases and similar technologies
  • you have knowledge of ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library) principles, roles and responsibilities of best practices for IT application support, including IT Service Continuity, Disaster Recovery, Incident, Problem, Change and Release Management
  • you have knowledge of network infrastructure technologies, midrange server hardware/environments, operating systems, web-based application infrastructure architecture and infrastructure components, application software such as middleware, application servers, web servers, reporting services, business intelligence and analytics, data integration (extract, transform, load), workload automation, scripting languages, secured gateways, public/private key management, and application/performance monitoring tools
  • you have knowledge of current and emerging I&IT trends, operational methods and technologies, including hardware platforms, software, networks, databases, applications, common business systems, technology infrastructure and operational services, testing and implementation methodology
Planning and Problem-Solving Skills
  • you have the ability to identify and troubleshoot complex incidents related to database installation, administration and performance
  • you have expertise to analyze incidents of large-scale systems and to recommend solutions to meet user needs and provide insight into impact of problems or planned changes
  • you have strong analytical and technical acumen to conduct research, evaluate and recommend solutions
  • you can determine implications of various design alternatives by conducting comprehensive research and developing new approaches to ensure that effective results are realized and are measurable
Analytical and Evaluative Skills
  • you can develop complex query programs to extract information and reports from production and test databases
  • you can evaluate and recommend new or additional hardware/software requirements for new database systems; evaluate and develop proposals.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills
  • you can provide information to clients on database design alternatives, present formal and informal training sessions to staff, and make presentations to senior management on new data management technologies
  • you can prepare system documentation, develop training materials and prepare evaluation reports
  • you can discuss data management requirements with application developers and promote feasibility and advantages or disadvantages of various options with clients
