About the Role
Position: Quality Assurance Specialist
Location: West-End Halifax, NS & Dalhousie Laboratory
Experience: 1-3 years of experience or an educational background in Quality Assurance, Food Science, Chemistry, or a related field required. Experience in food, beverage, or nutraceutical manufacturing is considered an asset.
Key Responsibilities
As a Quality Assurance Specialist, you will help build and maintain quality systems supporting internal R&D activities and external manufacturing partners. You will work closely with co-manufacturers, suppliers, customers, and internal teams to ensure products meet established specifications, regulatory requirements, and quality standards.
Responsibilities include:
Serve as a primary point of contact with co-manufacturers regarding quality documentation, including COAs, specification sheets, and SDS.
Coordinate required testing for production runs and work with clients and manufacturing partners to ensure release specifications are clearly established and achieved.
Manage raw material qualification activities, including reviewing COAs, approving new supplier samples, and implementing verification processes for new lots and suppliers.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date COAs for raw materials and finished products.
Manage stability programs, including scheduling, inventory tracking, and communicating upcoming testing requirements to internal teams.
Develop, implement, and maintain internal quality SOPs.
Lead and support external audits, including co-manufacturer facility audits and preparation of audit reports.
Oversee vendor qualification processes for raw material suppliers.
Complete qualification documentation and respond to audit and quality requests from partners and manufacturing organizations.
Support allergen documentation and other customer-facing quality and regulatory requirements.
Collaborate with R&D, manufacturing, suppliers, and customers to continuously improve quality systems and processes.
What We're Looking For
1-3 years of relevant experience or education in Quality Assurance, Food Science, Chemistry, or a related discipline.
Experience in food, beverage, nutraceutical, or related manufacturing environments is an asset.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to manage quality documentation and multiple projects simultaneously.
Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
Familiarity with COAs, specifications, SOPs, supplier qualification, and quality systems.
Ability to work effectively with internal teams, suppliers, co-manufacturers, and customers.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced and growing environment.
