About the Role:
As a Collection Agent, you’ll manage a portfolio of accounts, ensuring timely payments, negotiating repayment terms, and maintaining accurate documentation. You’ll also collaborate closely with our finance and legal departments to support collection and recovery strategies that protect both the company and the customer relationship.

Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a portfolio of delinquent accounts to ensure timely resolution and recovery.
- Conduct outbound and inbound calls with customers to discuss overdue balances and payment options.
- Negotiate and structure payment arrangements while maintaining a professional and empathetic approach.
- Document all collection activity accurately in the system and maintain up-to-date account records.
- Collaborate with other team members and management to achieve individual and team targets.
- Provide regular status updates on accounts and escalate complex matters as needed.
- Prepare and draft legal pleadings, including claims, motions, garnishments, and writs.
- Draft and review settlement agreements and legal correspondence.
- Negotiate settlements with previously defaulted customers.
- Process bankruptcy and consumer proposal claims as required.
- Conduct skip tracing and asset verification when necessary.
- Ensure full compliance with industry laws, regulations, and internal procedures.
- Perform general account maintenance and support other administrative functions as needed.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Minimum 2 years of experience in collections, recovery, or a legal/financial services environment.
- Valid G or G2 driver’s license required.
- Senior-level collections experience mindset with the ability to take ownership of a portfolio and drive default accounts toward resolution with minimal supervision.
- Proven self-starter who is proactive, resourceful, and capable of identifying solutions independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong sense of urgency, accountability, and follow-through, with the ability to prioritize competing demands and adapt quickly to changing circumstances.
- Demonstrated ability to thrive in a high-volume, results-oriented setting while maintaining professionalism and sound judgment.
- Confident decision-maker with a "go-getter" attitude who is motivated by achieving targets, overcoming challenges, and contributing to the overall success of the team.
- Knowledge of collection laws, PPSA, and Consumer Protection legislation is an asset.
- Paralegal or Law Clerk diploma considered an advantage but not required.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
- Strong organization and time management abilities with attention to detail.
- Comfortable using Microsoft Excel and learning new software quickly.
