The opportunity
An exciting opportunity exists in our Research and Development department within our Technologies group located in Fort Saskatchewan for a Technologist II. The purpose of this position is to provide setup and operation of complex laboratory and pilot plant test equipment and support to commercial operations, in alignment with Technologies’ overall strategic plan.
In this role, you will be accountable for:-
Assembling and operating complex laboratory and pilot plant test equipment.
- Performing maintenance on complex laboratory and pilot plant test equipment, as per established procedures and protocols.
- Preparing feed materials for testing by crushing, grinding, repulping, screening and/or blending.
- Handling toxic, corrosive, and/or flammable materials, following established procedures.
- Collecting and preparing test samples for analysis and conduct routine analyses.
- Providing equipment assembly and operating data, test readings and observations through the preparation of relevant data sheets, graphs, and diagrams.
- Preparing memoranda to communicate test results and procedures or maintenance issues.
- Monitoring equipment operation and sample collection in the field in support of commercial plant operations.
Skills and attributes for success:-
Diploma-qualified: Chemical Technology, Chemical Engineering Technology, Materials Engineering Technology, or equivalent.
- Working knowledge of fundamental chemical principles.

Power Engineering 4th Class certificate or equivalent.

Mechanical experience would be considered an asset.

Experience with operation and maintenance of routine mechanical and motorized equipment, including chemical processing reactors.

Strong attention to detail.

Strong problem-solving skills.

Experience with preparing data tables and/or Excel spreadsheets.
