Training Officer
The Calgary Training Officer is responsible for assisting in the training of new employees and the continued education of current drivers. In-house training is provided as per the programs, policies and guidelines of SOUTHLAND’s Training Department. This position requires an ability to communicate well with tact and diplomacy in confidential matters. The Training Officer reports directly to the Supervisor of training in Calgary. This position will require availability 5 days per week during the school year as well as availability during the summer.
Knowledge and Skills Required
- Class 1 or 2 driver's license, “S” Endorsed held for a
- Knowledge of Highway Traffic Act and Emergency Procedures
- Clean 10-year commercial drivers abstract
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Classroom sessions for new trainees
- Daily assessment of driving skills
- On-the-road evaluations
- Utilize TrackIt for training progress
- Be accessible to drivers with any questions or concerns they may have with Training & Development as well as help to develop skills as a School Bus Driver
- Drive any school route that needs to be covered
Working Conditions
Typical hours are 9:30 am to 1:30 pm during the school year, with additional hours based on operational needs. Summer hours are an 8-hour day. The ideal candidate will operate a school bus route and take on additional hours to fulfill training duties as required.
