Couples Therapist (RP or RSW)
Independent Contractor | Barrie, ON | $95–$140 per clinical hour
Michelle Harris & Associates is looking for a therapist to join our Barrie practice who has a particular interest in working with couples and relationships.
Couples work is its own kind of therapy. It takes someone who can connect with two people at once, stay grounded when emotions run high, notice the patterns happening in the room, and help both partners feel heard without taking sides.

This is an independent contractor position, with compensation ranging from $95–$140 per clinical hour, depending on experience and training.
Your schedule can be fairly flexible. We do ask that you have at least one evening per week available for in-person appointments, as in-person and evening availability tends to work best for many of the couples we see.
What the role looks like:
Your caseload will have a focus on couples and relationship therapy. Depending on your interests and areas of competence, there may also be opportunities to work with individual clients.
The couples coming to us may be looking for support with things like:
- Communication and recurring conflict
- Rebuilding trust
- Emotional or physical disconnection
- Infidelity
- Intimacy concerns
- Parenting and family stress
- Major life transitions
- Separation or uncertainty about the future of the relationship
- Strengthening an otherwise healthy relationship
You'll provide assessment and psychotherapy, develop treatment plans, keep your clinical documentation up to date, and communicate with other professionals when appropriate and with client consent.
We take care of much of the administrative side of private practice, including:
- Marketing and referrals
- Scheduling
- Billing and payment processing
- Administrative support
- Comfortable office space
- Practice systems and resources
- Opportunities for consultation and clinical support
The idea is that you can have the flexibility and independence of private practice without having to manage every piece of it yourself.
Who we're looking for:
You'll need to be registered and in good standing with the CRPO or OCSWSSW, carry your own professional liability insurance, and provide a current Vulnerable Sector Check.
We're particularly interested in hearing from therapists who already have experience providing couples therapy or who have completed significant training in this area.
Training or experience in approaches such as the following would be an asset:
- Gottman Method Couples Therapy
- Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
- Relational or attachment-based approaches
- Discernment counselling
- Sex and intimacy therapy
- Trauma-informed couples therapy
We're not looking for someone who follows one particular model. What matters more is that you have a solid understanding of relationship dynamics and are comfortable doing the very different work that happens when there are two clients in the room.
You should be able to build rapport with both partners, manage conflict without becoming part of it, recognize when couples therapy may not be appropriate, and create a space where difficult conversations can happen safely and productively.

Michelle Harris & Associates is a psychotherapy practice in Barrie. We have been providing services in our community for almost 10 years to children, teens, adults, and families, and are looking to expand to providing services to couples. Our team uses a variety of evidence-based and trauma-informed approaches.
We value good clinical work, collaboration, and having a workplace where people actually enjoy coming to work. Private practice can sometimes feel isolating, and we want our clinicians to feel like they’re part of a team while still having the independence and flexibility that comes with contract work.
