ACCOUNTABILITIES:
The Director of Clinical Services (DCS) is accountable to the Executive Director and is responsible for organizing, directing, controlling, and evaluating the delivery of health care services to ensure optimal resident health and wellbeing. Working collaboratively with the Director of Care (DOC), ensures effective management of the nursing team and resources within the nursing envelope based on legislative requirements and MHC’s standards.
The DCS is required to perform their duties in a manner consistent with the Salvation Army Meighen Health Centre’s core values, ensure resident safety, and demonstrate customer service excellence while responsible for planning, implementation and evaluation of programs and services provided to the residents.
- Completion of a bachelor’s degree in nursing as well as a Nurse Practitioner educational program that has been approved by the College of Nurses of Ontario Council, and a current registration as a Nurse Practitioner with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Current First Aid/CPR certification.
- Certificate in palliative care and/or gerontology would be an asset.
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Over 10 years of progressive nursing experience with the ability to adapt to a changing environment and handle multiple priorities.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Nurse Practitioner.
- Previous experience working with seniors and/or in unionized long term care environments would be preferred.
- Previous supervisory, budgeting, union, and/or program planning experience would be an asset.
- Current knowledge of issues and trends including best practices in nursing and resident care.
- Knowledge of current quality improvement and risk management concepts and approaches.
SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:
- Computer literacy in a Windows environment including Outlook, Word, Power Point, Teams, and Excel. Knowledge of Point Click Care and/or RAI/MDS would be an asset.
- Deal tactfully and courteously with residents, resident’s families, visitors, and staff in a positive manner.
- Demonstrate a high level of integrity, sound judgment and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Demonstrated skill in leadership, including experience with setting and achieving strategy, goals, and objectives; problem solving and conflict resolution.
- Demonstrate relevant understanding of, and compliance with, legislative knowledge of the Fixing Long Term Care Act 2021, Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Act, collective agreements and other applicable legislation as required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to mentor and develop staff.
- Good organizational and time management skills with the ability to change focus rapidly based on new and/or urgent priorities.
- Facilitate multidisciplinary communication in complex care issues to foster positive resident outcomes.
- Establish and sustain care in a manner that is resident centred and fosters evidence based best practice.
- Demonstrated commitment to a resident-centered leadership style.
- Demonstrated commitment to treating others with respect and dignity.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development.
- Focus on a collaborative team approach with all managers and staff and create a working climate that is positive and mutually supportive.
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
- Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Vulnerable Sector Screening prior to entering the workplace.
- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
