About Crunch Time Basketball League
The Crunch Time Basketball League (CTBL) is a developmental youth house league designed to give young athletes an opportunity to learn, compete and develop their basketball skills in a positive and structured environment.
We are currently seeking Volunteer Basketball Referees for our upcoming Fall Season.
We're looking for experienced basketball players, current or former referees, coaches, and individuals with a strong knowledge of the game who are interested in giving back to the basketball community while gaining valuable officiating experience.
Divisions
Our referees will officiate games within one or more of our three age/skill divisions:
- Beginners: Ages 9–10
- Intermediate: Ages 11–13
- Advanced: Ages 14–16
Games become progressively more competitive as players advance through each division.
Weekly Format
CTBL games are played every Saturday at All Saints CES in Markham.
Each division has a 90-minute session, consisting of:
30-Minute Team Warm-Up
1 Hour of Organized League Games
Referees are responsible for officiating the game portion of each session and working alongside CTBL coaches, scorekeepers and staff.
Referee Responsibilities
- Officiate youth basketball games in a fair and consistent manner
- Enforce basketball rules while recognizing the developmental level of each division
- Make clear and confident calls
- Communicate professionally with players, coaches and CTBL staff
- Help teach younger players by briefly explaining calls when appropriate
- Maintain control of the game while encouraging good sportsmanship
- Promote player safety and fair play
- Arrive on time and prepared for assigned games
- Work collaboratively with fellow referees and scorekeepers
- Represent Crunch Time Basketball in a positive and professional manner
Who We're Looking For
Ideal candidates should:
- Have a good understanding of basketball rules
- Have previous basketball playing, coaching and/or officiating experience
- Be comfortable making decisions and communicating calls confidently
- Be dependable, punctual and professional
- Have strong communication skills
- Be comfortable working with athletes between the ages of 9–16
- Understand that CTBL is a developmental league and officiating should help players learn the game
- Be available on Saturdays during the 11-week season from September 26 through December 12
Previous officiating experience is an asset but is not required for candidates with a strong basketball background and understanding of the rules.
Experienced high school, college/university and former competitive basketball players interested in learning how to officiate are encouraged to apply.
