Human Resources Specialist
Reporting to the Accounting/HR Manager, the Human Resources Specialist is responsible for all aspects of the employment lifecycle of 120+ employees of all classes from needs assessments, talent recruitment, onboarding and offboarding, compensation delivery (including payroll processing), performance management, and employee relations while ensuring compliance with Federal and Provincial legislation. The incumbent will also be responsible for policy review and implementation, internal and external reporting, OHS oversight and planning any staff functions.

Responsibilities Include (but may not be limited to):
  • Reviewing current policies and procedures and making recommendations for improvement
  • Creation/maintenance of job descriptions;
  • Supporting the hiring process in all departments, including advertising open positions, reviewing resumes, coordinating and conducting interviews, conducting reference and background checks, drafting offer letters;
  • Administering the on-boarding process for new employees; maintaining up-to-date personnel information and files; maintains Human Resource Information System records and compiles reports from database;
  • Developing and maintain a corporate employee retention plan;
  • Processing bi-weekly payroll;
  • Administering employee benefits;
  • Completing and submitting paperwork to external agencies including worker’s compensation claims (WCB), EI, verification of employment, etc.;
  • Maintaining the employee handbook;
  • Ensuring compliance with federal and provincial employment regulations;
  • Develop and maintain HR systems, processes, and policies with guidance from senior Management
  • Conflict resolution - including handling complaints and settling disputes.
  • Administering and tracking employee attendance. Documenting and administering discipline as required. Participating in disciplinary and termination meetings;
  • Providing support and oversight to OH&S committees
  • Degree or Diploma in Human Resources or equivalent experience
  • 1-3 years successful experience working in a Human Resources role (membership in a recognized professional organization an asset but not a requirement)
  • Experience with payroll processing and benefits administration
  • Knowledge of Alberta Employment Standards and Alberta Occupation Health and Safety Legislation
  • Knowledge of Alberta Worker’s Compensation Legislation and requirements
  • Dedication to a high level of confidentiality and professionalism

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point etc.);
  • Knowledge of Ceridian Canada payroll systems (specifically Dayforce) an asset.
