This is accomplished across four geographic management zones which are responsible for the operation of acute care health centres and the provision of a variety of inpatient, outpatient services including academic, tertiary, quaternary care and community based programs and services including continuing care, primary health care, public health, and mental health and addictions.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Laboratory Services Manager, this position is responsible for registering laboratory patients in an effective and courteous manner, considering always the well-being of the client and coworkers in accordance with NSHA’s Key Strategic Priority Quality and Patient Safety. Incumbent must be self-motivated with the organizational skills necessary to perform the tasks associated with the lab registration and reception areas. The incumbent must be able to work independently with the ability to prioritize daily tasks. Rotating shifts and weekend/evening coverage and cross training within other areas of Laboratory Services may be required. Key components of the position are communication, customer service, data accuracy, punctuality, attention to detail, compliance to standard operating procedures as well as OH&S regulations, etc.

Note: Travel may be required to other sites depending on operational needs

Qualifications

  • High School diploma required
  • Graduate of a post-secondary secretarial or office administration program or equivalent required
  • Successful completion Graduation from an approved Medical Terminology course required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer applications for Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook is required
  • Training and experience in spreadsheet and database software program is an asset.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer applications for Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook is required
  • Demonstrated proficiency in current Meditech applications preferred (Admissions/OE/EMR)
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills are required; must be an effective team player
  • Current WHMIS certification is required
  • Recent NVCI training / certification considered an asset
  • Previous work attendance may be considered
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
Hours of Work

Long Assignment Full Time Position; 70 hours bi-weekly

With an approximate start date of Janaury 31, 2021 and an expected end date of January 31, 2022 (approx. 12 months)

$20.0857 - $21.9045
