Reporting to

Sanitation Manager, Burnaby

Position Purpose

Ensure operation meets and exceeds all GMP and cleaning criteria as determined by government bodies, customer requirements and internal standards. This position mainly consists of Night shifts with occasional Days as needed.

Daily tasks

Lead sanitation employees in a multi shift 24 hour bakery production operation.
Dispose of all forms of waste in a legal and cost effective manner.
Ensure facility meets all municipal and provincial waste water regulations.
Adhere to GMPs, Food Safety and Health and Safety rules and practices are being followed.
Responsible to be highly engaged in Safety culture through active participation in huddles, meetings, audits, and investigations. Actively look for ways to improve safe processes and behaviours aimed at accident prevention.
Monitor and enforce GMP compliance by all operators.
Ensure compliance of all employees to weekly / monthly training schedule.
Ensure sanitation is trained to handle any potentially hazardous cleaning agents.
Ensure all work areas are clean and organized and free of spills, water, wood, and debris.
Report any unsafe conditions, incidents or injuries immediately.
Ensure proper use of all prescribed personal protective equipment.
Executes of the sanitation cleaning plans based on established priorities and sequences for the bakery facility.
Executes the sanitation cleaning plan and provides priorities and resources for sanitation to deliver high level of service and ensure minimum costs and operational delays.
Adherence to the master cleaning schedule and updates as required.
Gaining co-operation from the rest of manufacturing team.
Create SSOP’s for new equipment.
Participate in Internal and External Audits.
Work closely with other departments in order to achieve organizational goals.
Manages employee performance, discipline, and development. Ensures compliance to company policies and procedures.
Participate in the resolution of employee relations opportunities, grievances, and contributes positively to employee morale and culture.
Perform other duties as required
Adhere to GMPs and Health and Safety rules as outlined in employee handbook
Keep work area clean and clear of hazards
Report any unsafe conditions, incidents or injuries to supervisor immediately
Use all prescribed personal protective equipment
Ensure GMP’s and safe food handling practices are being followed
Monitor and enforce GMP compliance by all operators
Ensure all work areas are clean and organized and free of spills, water, wood, and debris
Complete incident reports for all FM/GMP incidents
Follow up with Health, Safety & Security Manager any reports of unusual people or behaviours

Primarily in contact with:
Human Resource Director – Daily or As needed
Bakery Director – Reporting issues and setting direction - Daily or as needed.
Employees & Supervisors – HR issues and recruitment - daily/as necessary.
Government Departments - as needed.
Owners of the Company – Dealing with their issues - As needed.
The Health and Safety Co-ordinator- As needed
Perform all other duties assigned

Qualifications

3-5 years track record in supervising people in a continuous process manufacturing environment
Must be available to work Nights
Minimum grade 12 graduation but preference will be given to those with relevant post secondary education
Background in bakery / yeast / frozen food manufacturing would be an advantage
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with experience in report writing
Ability to supervise / lead others in positive employee relations climate
Proven record in successful planning, decision-making and problem solving
Competence in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
