Iacobelli Law Firm is a personal injury law firm that serves injury clients throughout the province of Ontario. We strive for excellence in the representation of injury victims and are presently recruiting for a Law Clerk or Paralegal with experience or interest in civil litigation with an emphasis on representing injured parties. The ideal candidate should be driven and detail oriented and have a minimum one year of experience as a law clerk or a recent graduate of a law clerk or paralegal program with a community college diploma or equivalent experience in litigation. We will consider recent graduates and full-time and part-time applicants, as well as co-op students interested in transitioning to full time employment upon completion of their program of study.
Key responsibilities for this position include the following:
- intake and preparation of new files
- Assist our team of lawyers with daily tasks and managing a large number of files through the litigation process
- Draft and send time sensitive correspondence to defense counsel, insurance companies, medical providers and clients
- Draft legal documents for lawyer review
- Request various forms of personal and confidential client information from medical facilities, government agencies and employers
- Serve productions to defense counsel pursuant to the Rules of Civil Procedure
- Maintain a vast knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure
- Arrange dates for Examination for Discovery, Mediation, and Pre-Trials with opposing counsel
- Update and maintain production charts for various records sent and received
- Draft and send medical briefs and medical cover letters to treatment facilities.
- Answering telephone calls
- Communicate with clients, insurance adjusters, court personnel, and service providers
- Perform general office and clerical duties
Experience and Qualifications:
- Legal Assistant Diploma from a recognized Community College or an Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario Certificate is an asset;
- Solid understanding of the Rules of Civil Procedure and court practice and procedures at various levels;
- excellent typing and computer skills: proficiency in a suite of Google Workspace applications ;
- Excellent written and verbal English skills, including spelling and grammar;
- An ability to remain flexible, proactive, resourceful and efficient;
- Exceptional planning and organization skills, ability to plan, coordinate and monitor a significant number of simultaneous tasks in an environment of shifting priorities;
- The ability to work independently, prioritize, adjust to changing priorities, and successfully complete numerous short and long-term assignments simultaneously in a team environment;
- The ability to deal effectively with all levels of management, while being a team player.
