Summary
The Facilities & Environmental Services Assistant is an 8-week Canada Summer Jobs-funded placement designed to provide meaningful, hands-on experience in both building operations and healthcare environmental services. This support and learning role is ideal for individuals interested in exploring careers in facilities management, building maintenance, environmental services, property management, healthcare operations, or related fields.
Working under the guidance of the Maintenance Manager and Environmental Services leadership, the successful candidate will assist with day-to-day operations while gaining practical exposure to preventative maintenance, building systems, environmental services, workplace safety, asset management, and resident-focused service delivery within a retirement community.
This position is intended to complement academic learning by providing real-world experience in a supportive environment. The successful candidate will not be expected to perform work independently beyond their level of training and will receive mentorship, guidance, and opportunities to develop practical skills throughout the placement.
While education or training in a related field is considered an asset, applicants do not need to be current students to be eligible. The position is open to all eligible youth who meet the Canada Summer Jobs program requirements.
Canada Summer Jobs Eligibility
This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program. To be eligible, applicants must:
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment (applicants may turn 31 during the placement provided they were 30 when employment began).
- Be one of the following:
- a Canadian citizen;
- a permanent resident; or
- a person who has been granted refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN) before beginning employment.
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with applicable provincial or territorial employment legislation.
Please note: Applicants do not need to be enrolled in school or returning to school in the fall to be eligible.
The following individuals are not eligible for Canada Summer Jobs-funded positions:
- International students studying in Canada on a study permit.
- Individuals working under temporary work permits or visitor visas.
- Individuals whose refugee claim is pending and who have not yet been granted protected person status.
