Pharmacy Technician

As a member of the Pharmacy Operations team, reporting to the Manager, Pharmacy Operations, the Pharmacy Technician will provide a variety of technical functions related to the preparation, dispensing and distribution of medication to inpatients and outpatients utilizing a computerized distribution system. These duties include but are not limited to; unit-dose dispensing, and maintaining ward stock on inpatient units, monitoring usage and delivery of medication., and prepackaging medication to established standards; purchasing and inventory control activities as assigned, monitoring usage and expiry dates and running reports as required; recording actions on computerized systems, narcotic distribution, and outpatient dispensing as required. This position also supports and participates in risk management, patient safety, and quality improvement activities. The Pharmacy Technician will also check the dispensing of other technicians as required by the pharmacist. The Pharmacy Technician performs work in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations, professional standards and guidelines and CAMH corporate and Pharmacy department policies and procedures. You must have completed a recognized Pharmacy Technician program or diploma and have one year experience in the field and eligibility for delegation of dispensing. Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the Ontario College of Pharmacists is required. Previous experience in a hospital environment would be advantageous. Good knowledge of pharmacy practices and pharmacy mathematics is required. Experience in a computerized environment and the ability to perform duties with flexibility, understand priorities, combined with a great degree of accuracy, is an asset. Effective organization and communication skills are required. The successful candidate must also possess excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and the patient population. Candidates will possess the ability for self-directed learning/working, as well as collaboration and teamwork. Candidates require the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.

Please Note: This Full time, contract (12 months) position is part of the OPSEU Bargaining Unit.
Salary Range: $26.77 to $30.86 per hour
