The Health and Safety Specialist works in support of Housing & Ancillary Services (HAS) to contribute to the health, safety and well being of staff, students and visitors within HAS operated facilities and environments. Working in collaboration with the University’s central Health & Safety unit (Health, Safety and Employee Well-being), the role supports the identification of hazards and the implementation of appropriate controls to mitigate health, safety and environmental risks, with the goal of preventing accidents, injuries, and occupational illness within the HAS portfolio.
The Specialist delivers hands on health and safety services to HAS units, including training, the investigation of musculoskeletal and workplace incidents and the identification and mitigation of operational and workplace hazards. The role supports compliance with applicable legislation, University policies, and best practices by partnering with HAS leaders, supervisors, and joint health and safety representatives, while ensuring alignment with central Health & Safety standards and guidance. The Specialist serves as a key liaison between Housing & Ancillary Services and Health, Safety & Employee Well-Being to ensure coordinated, consistent and effective service delivery.
