Cal-Tech Glass Services is a full service commercial and residential glass shop that has been serving Calgary and area for 35+ years
As a estimator you would be responsible for the calculation of total project costs to secure contracts. You will manage estimation of multiple projects of various sizes at any given time.
Duties And Responsibilities Include
Plan Review & Take-Offs
- Analyze architectural drawings, structural blueprints, and technical specifications.
- Identify contract scopes across curtain walls, storefronts, interior glazing systems, and skylights.
- Perform detailed take-offs to measure precise glass square footage and linear frame lengths.
- Distinguish glass types, grouping requirements for tempered, laminated, insulated, or spandrel panels.
Material & Vendor Procurement
- Request material quotes from external supply houses, metal manufacturers, and glass fabricators.
- Calculate system accessories, factoring in anchors, setting blocks, gaskets, and perimeter sealants.
- Evaluate hardware needs for entrance systems, and balustrades.
- Verify shipping expenses, accounting for crates, logistics, and long-distance transport logistics.
Labor & Equipment Costing
- Determine production times for shop fabrication and field installation crews.
- Factor wind-load metrics and building heights into safety and installation complexity.
- Budget field equipment, including scaffolding, cranes, boom lifts, and heavy-duty glass suction lifts.
- Apply correct wage schedules, matching project estimates to localized union or open-shop labor rates
Bid Submission & Strategy
- Prepare formal bids, creating accurate and clean quotation documents for general contractors.
- Track contract addenda, updating calculations to reflect any late-stage structural or design modifications.
- Assess margin risks, establishing pricing buffers based on market volatility and supply constraints.
- Lead project hand-offs, presenting awarded bid sheets, scopes, and margins to the project manager.
- Perform other duties as required.
Experience Requirement
- Minimum five years’ experience in commercial contract glazing
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required
- Knowledge of commercial construction practices.
- Good communication skills and sales ability.
- Proficient at understanding and translating construction plans, drawings and specifications and generating accurate take-offs and estimates
- Excellent math, formulation and configuration skills
- Keen attention to detail, organization and mechanical aptitude
- Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
- Ability to handle multiple projects at one time
- proficient in the use of PartnerPak or glazier studio., Bluebeam, Autocad
Job Types: Permanent, Full-time
Pay: $70,000.00-$90,000.00 per year
