Design & Certification Engineer (Senior)
Location: London, Ontario, Canada
The Senior Design & Certification Engineer is responsible for leading the design, development, certification, and continued airworthiness activities for Diamond Aircraft's existing and new aeronautical products. This role provides technical leadership, mentors intermediate and junior engineers, and works closely with cross-functional teams and regulatory authorities to ensure successful project execution and certification.
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to intermediate and junior engineers, supporting their professional development and the successful completion of assigned engineering activities.
- Lead the implementation of type design and manufacturing process changes to improve the quality, safety, reliability, and performance of Diamond Aircraft's aeronautical products.
- Review Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and determine the classification of type design changes.
- Develop certification plans for changes to existing type designs and new aeronautical products.
- Prepare and review test plans, engineering analyses, design reviews, technical reports, and other substantiating documentation.
- Design and review flight test change orders, including modifications to test aircraft and the installation of flight test equipment.
- Lead and participate in ground and flight testing, perform post-test analyses, and prepare and review test reports.
- Prepare and review compliance reports demonstrating compliance with applicable airworthiness regulations.
- Develop and review engineering, material, and process specifications.
- Coordinate with Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA), delegates, and other regulatory authorities throughout the certification process, as required.
- Support Continuing Airworthiness activities, including the review of technical publications and the investigation of occurrences and service difficulties.
- Participate in research and development activities supporting new aircraft programs and product improvements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering in a discipline relevant to the position.
- Minimum eight (8) years of relevant aerospace engineering experience.
- Working knowledge of Transport Canada Airworthiness Manual (AWM) Chapter 523 certification requirements.
- Experience implementing changes to the type design of aeronautical products.
- Experience with CATIA V5, AutoCAD/DraftSight, and Solid Edge.
- Strong analytical and technical report writing skills.
Preferred:
- Previous or current engineering delegation with a civil aviation authority.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation.
Academic Requirements:
- Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position
Engineering Specialties:
- Structures: Airframe and systems stress analysis, aircraft loads, dynamics and flutter, materials and processes.
- Mechanical: Mechanical systems, powerplant, fuel systems, and environmental control systems.
- Avionics and Electrical: Aircraft electrical and avionics systems, lightning effects protection, HIRF, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC).
