Bassano Farms Ltd. is currently seeking a Director of Food Safety and Quality. This position, as a member of the company’s senior leadership team, will be responsible for the total oversight, implementation and continuous development/improvement of all Product Quality, Food Safety and Plant Sanitation Programs for our multiple facilities.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide support and professional leadership for QA and Sanitation Manager/Supervisor and their team
  • Oversight of all Food Safety, Sanitation and Product Quality Programs to ensure regulatory compliance and continuous improvement and consistent enforcement of good manufacturing practices (GMPs) throughout the facility
  • Lead audit teams during customer, regulatory and other third party Food Safety audits
  • Assist with standardization of sanitary operating procedures by observing and identifying areas in need of improvement and implement programs to ensure production processes are consistent with established standards
  • Be pro-active and ready for all regulatory reviews
  • Effectively communicate food safety and raw material/product quality concerns to management team
  • Develops, implements, trains, and maintains all quality programs, HACCP programs, SOPs, SSOPs, to ensure compliance with Safe Foods for Canadians Act and local health department standards
  • Oversees traceability and recall programs
  • Oversees root cause analysis in the investigation of customer complaints and drives improvement plans
  • Ensures training compliance for food safety and quality requirements

Job Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree in food science, microbiology, or related field
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a senior Product Quality, Sanitation & Food Safety leadership role in food production
  • Multi-plant management experience preferred
  • Proficient with implementation of SQF and CanadaGAP Standards
  • Previous experience in leading third party Food Safety audit is required
  • Previous food safety management systems training and implementation experience
  • HACCP certification and experienced in the implementation and maintenance of HACCP / Food Safety Plans, as well as a solid understanding of the Safe Food for Canadians Act
  • Must be capable of working in a fast-paced environment with minimal direct supervision and have strong demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, and self-initiative skills and possess a strong work ethic
  • Detail oriented with strong problem-solving abilities and capabilities in leading multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skill
