At Russell Alexander Collaborative Family Lawyers, our team is experienced in practicing all aspects of family law. We represent clients across all of Ontario.
As an Articling Student, you will, under supervision, provide assistance and support our lawyers in various stages of the family law process.
Main Responsibilities:
- Under supervision, develop and review appropriate legal strategy for discovery, investigation, handling and trial/hearing of cases or matters; advise, communicate and develop those strategies with the team and clients as appropriate.
- Prepare draft legal documents, correspondence, pleadings, motions, mediation and pre-trial/arbitration memorandums including those requiring legal research.
- Perform legal research.
- Attend with lawyer and/or summarize discoveries when necessary.
- Assist lawyers in mediation, pre-trial, trial and arbitration preparation.
- May attend court conferences and pre-trial/arbitration hearings in conjunction with a lawyer.
- May attend court on uncontested and consent motions and simple contested motions (according to local court/provincial jurisdictions).
- Assist with other legal and administrative duties including media/marketing tasks and clerking tasks as needed.
Job Requirements:
- A law degree with LLB or J.D. from a recognized law school and be qualified to article in Ontario.
- General knowledge of procedural and substantive law (family law an asset).
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Able to communicate effectively and professionally.
- Able to work productively and efficiently under pressure.
- Superior organizational skills with a strong work ethic and ability to multi-task.
- Able to perform complex legal research, writing and analysis.
The Rules and Requirements for completion of Articles are established and governed by the Law Society of Ontario.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.55-$25.00 per hour
