Experienced Excavator Operator (Civil & Residential)

The Opportunity This role offers a dynamic blend of responsibilities. You will independently manage and execute smaller-scale excavation projects, particularly those requiring precise foundation digs and detailed site preparation. On larger, more complex jobs, you will be a crucial support to our Lead Operator and supervisory team, bringing your civil works expertise to ensure top-quality results and efficient operations. This position is ideal for someone who thrives on autonomy, problem-solving, and collaborative teamwork.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities)
- Diverse Project Execution: Efficiently manage and execute a wide range of projects, from bulk excavation and civil works to residential foundation digs and detailed backfills.
- Finish Grade & Civil Works: Perform accurate finish grading to specifications, ensuring desired final contours and elevations are achieved for both residential and large-scale civil projects.
- Blueprint & Grade Determination: Accurately read and interpret blueprints, plans, and survey benchmarks to establish and verify grades.
- Heavy Equipment Operation: Proficiently operate excavators and other heavy equipment (loaders, rollers, dozers) for diverse earthmoving scopes.
- Team Support & Collaboration: Work effectively with other operators, project managers, engineers, and ground crew on larger projects.
- Safe & Productive Operation: Operate heavy equipment in a highly safe, efficient, and productive manner, adhering to all safety protocols and setting a high standard for quality.
- Equipment Care: Perform thorough pre-operation inspections, routine maintenance, greasing, and fluid checks on equipment.
- Safety Champion: Actively participate in all safety programs and champion our company's unwavering commitment to a safe work environment.
What You Bring (Qualifications)
The ideal candidate for this role will have:
- Extensive Excavator Operating Experience: A minimum of 5 years of proven operating experience, with a strong background in general excavation and civil works. Experience in civil, commercial, residential, and/or environmental projects (e.g., dam-building, rip-rap placement) is highly valued.
- Independent Project Expertise: Demonstrated ability to independently perform foundation digs and backfills to precise specifications without direct supervision.
- Grade & Blueprint Reading: Ability to accurately read, interpret, and work from blueprints and survey benchmarks to determine and execute grades.
- Problem-Solving Skills: The ability to adapt to changing site conditions and implement effective solutions for earthworks challenges, prioritizing cost-effectiveness and quality.
- Safety First Mentality: A steadfast commitment to top-quality work and an uncompromised dedication to safety, including experience working safely around underground utilities.
- Collaboration & Communication: Excellent coordination and communication skills to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
