Outdoor Living Manufacturing Ltd. is a dynamic and growing cedar manufacturing company located in Penticton, BC. We have been supplying garden sheds, raised garden beds, pergolas, gazebos and playhouses to homeowners in the United States and Canada for over 21 years.
We are currently in search of a Moulder Setup/ Maintenance Technician
Machine Setup & Calibration
- Interpret drawings: Read architectural blueprints, profile drawings, and work orders to determine exact finish dimensions.
- Configure spindles: Set axial and radial positions for multi-head configurations (bottom, top, right, left, and universal spindles).
- Install cutterheads: Select, balance, and lock straight or profile cutterheads onto machine spindles safely.
- Adjust feed systems: Calibrate feed roller pressure, bed plates, side guides, and hold-downs to match lumber thickness and species.
- Run test pieces: Execute trial runs and measure output with calipers to guarantee the profile matches the template.
Tooling & Profile Knife Grinding
- Grind profile knives: Operate profile knife grinders (e.g., Weinig Rondamat) to sharpen and duplicate high-speed steel (HSS) or carbide knives.
- Template creation: Produce or modify acrylic templates used for tracing and grinding specific wood profiles.
- Jointing calibration: Set up straight and profile jointer stones on the moulder to enable high-speed production runs.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Preventive care: Clean pitch, resin, and sawdust buildup from bed plates, feed rollers, and internal gears daily.
- Lubrication protocols: Execute daily and weekly grease and oil schedules for high-RPM spindle bearings.
- Diagnose faults: Perform root-cause analysis on mechanical vibration, snipe, chatter marks, and wavy finishes.
- Repair machinery: Replace worn feed rollers, belts, bed plates, and pneumatic components to keep the machine running optimally.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Experience: Previous experience as a Moulder Operator, Setup Technician, or in a similar woodworking role (often 1+ years preferred).
- Technical Skills: Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and work orders. Proficient with measuring tools (calipers, tape measures).
- Mechanical Aptitude: Strong understanding of machinery, mechanics, and maintenance.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physical activities, such as lifting materials, standing for long periods, and manual dexterity for tool adjustments.
