Responsibilities
Security Patrol & Public Safety
- Conduct regular foot patrols throughout the shopping centre, including common areas, parking lots, food courts, and exterior grounds.
- Maintain a highly visible security presence to help deter theft, vandalism, and other unwanted activity.
- Monitor entrances, exits, and high-traffic areas to promote a safe environment for shoppers, tenants, and staff.
- Identify and report safety hazards, suspicious activity, and security concerns.
Customer Service & Community Engagement
- Deliver exceptional customer service while providing a welcoming and professional security presence.
- Assist shoppers, tenants, and visitors with directions, general inquiries, and other requests.
- Build positive relationships with retailers, mall management, and members of the public.
- Resolve concerns professionally using strong communication and conflict de-escalation skills.
Emergency Response & Incident Management
- Respond promptly to medical emergencies, alarms, disturbances, and security incidents.
- Provide First Aid, CPR, or AED assistance until emergency responders arrive.
- Assist with evacuations and emergency procedures when required.
- Coordinate with police, fire, EMS, and mall management during emergency situations.
Reporting & Documentation
- Complete accurate daily activity logs, incident reports, and occurrence reports.
- Document observations, incidents, and actions taken in a clear and professional manner.
- Communicate important information during shift handovers to ensure operational continuity.
Surveillance & Site Security
- Monitor CCTV systems and respond to suspicious or unusual activity.
- Assist with access control for restricted areas and back-of-house operations.
- Support special events, crowd management, and holiday traffic as required.
- Maintain accountability for company-issued equipment and follow all site policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Ontario Security Guard Licence.
- Valid First Aid & CPR Certification (or willingness to obtain before employment).
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
- Outstanding customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Professional, approachable, and confident in interacting with the public.
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in emergency situations.
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
- Basic computer and smartphone skills for report writing and communication.
- Ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods (8–12-hour shifts).
- Flexible availability, including days, evenings, weekends, holidays, and peak shopping periods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in mall security, retail security, customer service, hospitality, or another public-facing role is considered an asset.
- Use of Force certificate.
- Strong conflict resolution and de-escalation skills.
- Experience working in busy, high-traffic environments is considered an asset.
Physical & Working Conditions
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
- Comfortable working indoors and outdoors, including parking lot patrols.
- Ability to respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and unexpected situations.
- Work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interaction with shoppers, tenants, and visitors.
- Shifts may include days, evenings, nights, weekends, statutory holidays, and peak retail seasons.
