Position Summary
The Occupational Therapist Consultant will work as a member of the school-linked teams with Specialized Learning Supports providing collaborative transdisciplinary educational support to school-aged students.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
- providing classroom-based support to children in Kindergarten through Grade 12 who have diverse learning needs
- providing consultative services to students and families focusing on student success in their educational environment
- providing recommendations to support the educational programming of diverse learners including demonstrating, modeling and coaching
- administering, interpreting and analyzing formal and informal assessments to determine current level of functional skills and impact of skill level on educational programming and student success
- providing services that incorporate evidence-based practice, including assessing student's participation in the school environment
- reviewing medical information and professional medical reports to assist in educational programming
- implementing targeted and specialized occupational therapy strategies with school staff to support student success
- collaborating with classroom teachers, outside agencies and student's families to coach school staff to implement strategies that increase student functioning at home, school and in the community
Education/Qualifications
- Master's degree in Occupational Therapy
- registered with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists
- a minimum of three years related experience including classroom-based service with children and youth with special needs
- excellent communication, collaboration and consulting skills
- advanced skills in diagnosis and program intervention
Rate of Pay
$49.50 to $63.31 per hour
