The Senior Project Manager, Engineering supports the Project Director in the delivery of large-scale capital projects, typically ranging in value from $100M to $1B. The incumbent contributes to project planning, execution, and control, ensuring rigor in the management of project scope, costs, schedules, and risks. This role is key in structuring projects, coordinating stakeholders, and ensuring the quality of deliverables throughout the project lifecycle.
The Senior Project Manager works closely with project managers, engineers, procurement teams, construction managers, and external partners, including engineering firms and contractors.
A. Project Development (Studies)
- Support front-end planning by ensuring the quality and structure of deliverables.
- Contribute to the development of project scope, cost estimates, and schedules.
- Participate in the preparation of required documentation, including technical and financial analyses.
- Support risk assessment and the definition of mitigation strategies.
- Coordinate the information required for the preparation of Requests for Appropriations (RAs).
B. General / Governance
- Ensure the implementation and ongoing application of the Project Execution Plan, including roles and responsibilities, as well as activities related to contract management, engineering, construction, procurement, document control, cost, schedule, risk tracking, quality assurance and control, and HSE.
- Ensure the preparation and consolidation of progress reports (weekly and monthly).
- Monitor performance variances and recommend corrective actions.
- Ensure adherence to corporate governance processes, procedures, and standards.
C. Project Execution
- Support the overall coordination of project execution by ensuring alignment across engineering, procurement, and construction teams.
- Monitor the performance of suppliers, engineering firms, and contractors, and contribute to the enforcement of contractual obligations.
- Participate in the management of operational risks and in the implementation of mitigation measures.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental requirements and support the coordination of HSE plans.
- Participate in monitoring site activities and resolving technical and operational issues.
- Contribute to the planning and monitoring of commissioning, transition to operations, and project close-out.
- Contribute to the preparation of progress reports and financial forecasts.
Bachelor’s degree in engineering and membership in the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec or equivalent certification (asset).- Minimum of 10 years of project management experience in industrial, energy, or related sectors.
- Relevant experience in capital project execution within complex environments.
Strong organizational skills and a high level of rigor in managing project scope, schedules, and budgets.- Structured, methodical, and process-driven approach.
- Ability to analyze project data and ensure effective tracking of performance indicators.
- Ability to coordinate cross-functional teams and interact with suppliers and contractors.
- Ability to work in industrial and construction environments.
- Strong communication skills across various organizational levels.
- Sound judgment and ability to quickly identify variances and recommend corrective actions.
- Availability to travel to project sites.
- Ability to work autonomously while supporting the Project Director in achieving objectives.
Bilingual (French and English), both spoken and written.
