Schedule may vary according to requirements of responsibilities – some weekend and evening work may be required.
This position is considered a management position for the purposes of the Employment Standards Act of Ontario and as such is not covered by various ESA rules, including but not limited to those related to hours of work, daily and weekly rest periods and overtime compensation. Salary is based on average minimum weekly hours of 40 per week and hours worked are compensated through the annual salary amount.
Travel maybe required.
Normal location of work is at 5050 Jepson Street, Niagara Falls, ON
Responsibilities
Supervises, motivates and trains all assigned staff, ensuring effective teamwork, high standards of work quality and organizational performance
Creates educational programs for front line staff for the purpose of improvement of resident care.
Meets routinely with Nursing Program(s) designates and oversees the evaluation of all Annual Mandatory Nursing Services Programs
Participates in internal and external committees as assigned
Oversees the established system of resident re assessment of the Nursing Care Plan ensuring documentation is current, accurate and reflective of the resident plan of care and the nursing care provided through role modeling, teaching, mentoring, coaching, auditing and report generating
Ensures all reports and statements required from the nursing department are prepared, accurate and available for quarterly reporting
Takes action to ensure resident safety: reports and conducts investigations of unsafe practices, resident abuse, or professional misconduct; documents incidents as per Facility/ The college of Nurses Ontario and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care
Reads Nursing Report Daily and provides status to the Director of Care/ Charge Nurse as necessary
Replaces staff to ensure adequate shift coverage in the absence of the scheduler as needed or requested by Director of Care
Assesses/Provides Feedback to the Director of Care regarding staff skills and teaches skills to meet the standard set by the College of Nurses Ontario/Facility Policies
Audits and analyzes Benchmark indicators in conjunction with the Continuous Quality improvement coordinator and participates in Annual Health Quality Ontario QIP and quarterly PAC (Professional Advisory Committee) meetings.
Maintains medical records according to the professional standards of the College of Nurses Ontario
Communicates with Registered and Unregulated Care Providers routinely to review/adjust daily routines as necessary.
Ensures all communication with residents/families is carried out in a sensitive compassionate manner and adapts mode of communication to facilitate effective interaction in all activities
Checks in with every unit to identify and ensure follow up on resident risk/care issues are being addressed by the Registered staff on the Unit(s)
Perform other position related duties as required.
Qualifications
Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario
Three years’ experience in a Long-term Care setting preferred
Demonstrates a keen interest in geriatrics and is capable of supervising and implementing critical thinking skills to address the nursing care needs of the Residents
Possesses effective decision-making and organizational skills and exhibits strong leadership qualities
Knowledgeable in the current Standards of Practice established by the College of Nurses
Knows and interprets MOHLTCA/On Reg 79/10 legislation, to ensure systems/processes are in place to achieve and sustain compliance
Able to act as a Resource to other programs and initiatives such as Fall/Restraints/Infection Prevention/Continence programs or other programs or projects as required.
Strong oral and written communication skills
Self-motivated and disciplined
Experience/Working knowledge in word processing; spread sheet use
Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.
