This is an exciting opportunity at the Strathcona Community Hospital. The facility offers a 24/7 Emergency Department and a variety of Ambulatory, Laboratory, and Diagnostic Imaging services. The Unit Clerk – Emergency Department, under the general supervision of the Manager, serves as the point of first contact in matters concerning the efficient administration of the Emergency Department and IV Therapy Clinic. The Unit Clerk is responsible for: The management of incoming and outgoing telephone calls, greeting and directing patients/visitors, and managing patient records/charts. Relaying information related to admissions, transfers and discharges of patients, diagnostic testing, booking appointments and patient consults. Transcribing and processing physician orders, including medication/laboratory/diagnostic imaging, and treatment orders, and ensuring an adequate level of supplies are available on the unit for use by the inter-professional team.
As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Minimum of 1 year recent experience in a Unit Clerk position (acute care setting and/or Emergency experience preferred). Medical terminology and/or acceptable previous experience is required. Basic typing skills and 1 year experience working with computers including applications such as Microsoft Office and Excel. Well developed and demonstrated interpersonal skills. Ability to prioritize work and effectively work with frequent interruptions, noise and nearby distractions. Ability to communicate effectively with others both verbally and in writing.
Preference will be given to applicants with recent EDIS experience. Preference will be given to applicants available for all shift patterns
