Position Summary
RCHHS is seeking a dedicated and organized Health Care Programs Assistant to join our team. This role provides administrative and operational support to Health Care Aides and assists in coordinating home care services. The Health Care Programs Assistant plays a key role in managing home care authorizations, supporting staff scheduling, maintaining documentation, and serving as a central point of contact for clients, case managers, and care staff.
This position is for up to 21 hours per week, with flexibility based on organizational needs and special projects.
Qualifications
- Active registration with the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory is required and must be maintained throughout employment.
- Strong understanding of the Home Care Aide role and home care service delivery.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment.
- Proficiency with basic computer applications and office software.
- Demonstrated professionalism, discretion, and commitment to confidentiality.
Duties
- Process and track Home Care authorizations and related documentation.
- Ensure all client records and service documentation are complete, accurate, and compliant with contractual requirements.
- Communicate client care changes and updates to affected staff in a timely manner.
- Provide day-to-day support, guidance, and redirection to Health Care Aides as required.
- Assist with scheduling, short-notice changes, sick calls, and shift coverage needs.
- Support supervision activities, documentation reviews, and follow-up communication with staff.
- Reinforce organizational policies, professional conduct standards, and scope-of-practice expectations.
- Serve as a point of contact for clients, families, case managers, and Health Care Aides regarding service-related inquiries.
- Support communication regarding scheduling matters, service changes, and non-clinical concerns.
- Participate in ongoing education, training, and professional development opportunities.
- Attend Health Care Aide education sessions and nursing meetings as assigned.
- Support staff engagement, recognition, and morale-building initiatives, including appreciation events and social activities.
- Perform direct care activities within the Health Care Aide scope of practice when operationally required.
- Maintain client confidentiality and comply with all privacy, FOIP, ethical, and organizational standards.
- Ensure responsibilities are carried out in accordance with RCHHS policies, procedures, and applicable legislation.
The Health Care Programs Assistant reports directly to the Health Care Programs Manager and performs other related duties as assigned.
