Caframo is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Senior Accounting Specialist who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Reporting to the Controller, this role is responsible for financial reporting, reconciliations, compliance activities, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives across the accounting function.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial information, supporting business decision-making, maintaining strong internal controls, and driving process efficiencies. Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Month-End Close
- Execute monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities in accordance with established timelines.
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, management reports, KPI reports, and supporting schedules.
- Complete bank covenant reporting and monitor compliance with lender requirements.
- Maintain project accounting records and monitor project costs and capital expenditures.
- Manage fixed asset accounting, including asset additions, disposals, depreciation, and reconciliations.
- Prepare journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Provide financial analysis, variance reporting, and ad hoc reports to support management decision-making.
- Prepare working papers and supporting documentation for internal and external audits.
Accounting Operations
- Monitor daily cash activity and perform bank reconciliations.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate discrepancies.
- Maintain accounting records for capital assets and deferred development costs.
- Prepare and file GST/HST, VAT, and other indirect tax returns.
- Review accounts payable cheque runs and electronic payments prior to processing.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
Banking & Cash Management
- Reconcile corporate bank accounts and monitor cash balances.
- Support cash flow forecasting and treasury management activities.
- Administer and reconcile multi-currency petty cash accounts.
- Review and reconcile corporate credit card transactions and employee expense claims.
- Ensure proper documentation and compliance with company policies related to cash management.
Accounts Receivable & Credit
- Apply customer payments and reconcile customer accounts.
- Investigate and resolve payment discrepancies, deductions, and unapplied cash.
- Monitor aged receivables and manage collection activities.
- Prepare and distribute monthly customer statements.
- Process credit claims, adjustments, and account corrections.
- Support customer credit reviews and credit approval processes.
Team Support & Continuous Improvement
- Provide guidance, training, and support to accounting team members.
- Maintain and update accounting procedures, policies, and work instructions.
- Act as a backup for accounts payable, accounts receivable, and inventory accounting functions as required.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements, increased efficiencies, and stronger internal controls.
- Participate in system implementations and process improvement initiatives.
Compliance & Audit
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, company policies, and internal controls.
- Support external audits by preparing schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
- Assist with regulatory reporting and compliance requirements.
- Maintain accurate and organized financial records to support audit readiness.
Education & Experience
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA designation or actively pursuing a CPA designation.
- Minimum 3 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with cost accounting, inventory valuation, inventory controls, and manufacturing financial reporting.
- Proven experience supporting month-end and year-end close processes, external audits, and lender reporting requirements.
- Experience working with ERP systems in a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated success identifying, implementing, and documenting process improvements that enhance efficiency and strengthen internal controls.
Skills & Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of Canadian GAAP and applicable tax regulations.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including financial analysis and reporting.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and reconciliation skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and committed to continuous improvement and operational excellence.
