DESCRIPTION:
Under the general direction of the Supervisor GIS Data Integrity, this role is responsible for ensuring FortisAlberta maximizes the value from the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology and tools. This role requires a thorough knowledge of GIS technology and will perform system input, including editing and system analysis. This role will also be responsible for operating and maintaining the database and producing a wide variety of maps and reports.
Please note this is a twelve (12) month term position.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but not limited to):
- Ensure the accuracy, quality, and integrity of facilities data within the GIS and communicate metrics to internal stakeholders.
- Interpret and integrate relevant data from multiple sources, i.e. maps, engineering drawings.
- Work with stakeholders and customer data sets to integrate into mapping products for project management purposes.
- Apply, interpret and assess changes to GIS related processes which result from system changes.
- Apply industry common processes and practices to leverage the existing GIS suite of technologies.
- Perform data extractions and reporting for internal and external stakeholders as requested.
- Apply Spatial Analysis to enhance reporting requirements of the business.
- Prepare complex GIS cartographic products and associated documentation
- Provide on-going advanced technical support to GIS end-users.
- Support the development, updating and delivery of training courses/materials/programs for GIS end-users.
- Special projects and other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Ability to perform GIS data conversion/editing, map production, spatial data management, and spatial analysis.
- Strong understanding of current GIS concepts and practices.
- Basic understanding of relational database management systems (RDBMS).
- Strong organizational and time management skills in order to effectively manage multiple priorities and competing demands in a dynamic and changing environment.
- Strong communication skills with an ability to interact with key project stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to apply comprehensive analytical skills and sound judgment in troubleshooting and problem solving.
- Extensive knowledge of GIS data (features and attributes) and the ability to extract data, create reports and present information to different departments within FortisAlberta.
- A proven track record in continuous improvement and the ability to challenge the ‘status quo’ and provide sound recommendations to improve processes.
- Proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with end-users and other departments; this includes excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to work in a team environment, or independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong computer skills with intermediate ability using MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Thorough working knowledge of distribution standards and structures; this includes a demonstrated knowledge of electrical system function and operation.
- Strong data analysis, reporting extraction and manipulation skills including advanced proficiency in Excel and SQL querying. (Excel, SQL Developer, PowerBI).
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- A degree in GIS, Geography, or a closely related field plus three (3) years of progressively responsible GIS experience working with ESRI technologies. Specifically, the ArcGIS suite (ArcGIS Pro, Esri Utility Network ) and its extensions is required, or
- A technical GIS Certification from a recognized Canadian institution plus six (6) years of progressively responsible GIS experience working with Esri technologies.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- An additional degree or credential in GIS, geography, or a closely related field is an asset.
- Successful completion of additional GIS/Cartography certificate programs or Esri ArcGIS training will be considered an asset.
- Experience working in Hexagon G-Electric GIS would be considered an asset.

Pay: $37.37-$52.33 per hour
