Keshet Kennels/Rescue is looking to hire a full time groundskeeper who will look after and maintain grounds, and assist with other tasks around the property as needed.
If you love the outdoors, working with machinery/equipment and working with your hands, this job is ideal for you. You will maintain and improve the landscape around buildings and throughout the facilities, ensuring that the place always looks its best. In winter, you will be responsible for removing snow in walking paths and clearing in front of gates, keeping paths from becoming slippery and spotting potential hazards around the property. Job Responsibilities
- Maintains the grounds through trimming, pruning, raking, mulching, litter pick ups, leveling potholes etc.
- Use equipment such as rakes, shovels, pruning and handsaws, axes, as well as chain saws, power lawnmowers, and snow blowers when required; keeping them clean and ready for use
- Routinely reviews exterior grounds to ensure everything is maintained;
- Remove snow (including roof tops) in winter conditions and keep outdoor areas safe during inclement weather.
- Keep eave troughs clear from debris.
- Perform light excavation, using shovels, picks and other tools to dig trenches and level ground.
- Clean interior and exterior areas of buildings as required, as well as performing additional seasonal tasks
- Pick up and remove trash and debris from the property and dispose of it appropriately on an as needed basis. This includes having recycling and trash at the curb on time for weekly pick up.
- Other associated tasks as identified by management.
Job Skills & Qualifications
Required:
- Must be comfortable around dogs. Job is at a Dog Kennel & Rescue.
- Ability to work independently and pro-actively.
- Able to communicate effectively with management and staff
- English language proficiency in reading, writing and speaking.
- Basic knowledge and familiarity with ride-on mowers and compact tractor with loader, snowblower and other attachments.
- Familiarity with hand held equipment such as chain saw, grass trimmer, hedge trimmers, power tools etc.
- Comfortable with, at minimum, light maintenance of all equipment
- Regular inspection of the premises to identify problems that may arise as a result of aging and weather conditions (i.e. strong winds, heavy rain, ice storms).
- Flexible hours in accordance with seasonal requirements. This includes availability over the weekends and evenings, as needed.
Preferred:
- At least one year experience in maintenance or a skilled trade
The job is for a full-time, permanent position on a large property.
This position is only open to people already living in South or East Ottawa within reasonable driving distance from Carlsbad Springs, which is 20 minutes drive East of downtown Ottawa.
