Ted's Tire Discounter is an established independent tire and wheel retailer that has served the Guelph area for more than 36 years. As we continue to grow, we are looking for an experienced advisor who can deliver knowledgeable service, build customer confidence and contribute meaningfully to sales performance.
This is a key front-counter position for someone who combines tire or automotive knowledge with strong communication, organization and sound judgment. You will guide customers from their first inquiry through the completed sale, coordinate closely with the shop and help the front counter operate smoothly during both routine days and the busiest parts of tire season.
The right person is confident making recommendations and asking for the sale, but understands that long-term customer trust matters more than pressure. You should be comfortable taking ownership of your work, following through on commitments and helping establish priorities when the manager is unavailable.
What you'll do
- Assist customers in person, by telephone and through online, text and email inquiries.
- Learn about each customer's vehicle, driving needs, budget, timing and seasonal priorities before making a recommendation.
- Recommend appropriate tire options and explain meaningful differences in performance, value, warranty and suitability in clear language.
- Prepare accurate quotes, respond professionally to price questions and confidently guide customers toward a purchasing decision.
- Present relevant wheels, TPMS, installation, balancing, road-force balancing, seasonal storage and related services when they add value for the customer.
- Follow up consistently on open quotes, outstanding questions and customer commitments.
- Book and adjust appointments, identify scheduling concerns early and use realistic service timelines.
- Create accurate work orders and maintain complete customer, vehicle, fitment, contact and storage information.
- Coordinate with the shop and keep customers informed about timing, delays or changes.
- Manage customer arrivals, waiting customers, payments and vehicle pickup with professionalism and attention to detail.
- Resolve routine customer concerns within company guidelines and involve management when appropriate.
- Support the front-counter team by recognizing priorities, communicating clearly and helping work continue smoothly when several demands arise at once.
What we're looking for
- Relevant experience in tire sales, automotive service advising or a comparable customer-facing automotive role. Two or more years is preferred, although demonstrated ability and results matter more than job title alone.
- Strong working knowledge of tires, including seasonal applications, product categories and common fitment considerations.
- The ability to explain options clearly, make a confident recommendation and convert qualified inquiries into profitable sales.
- A consultative, trustworthy approach that balances the customer's needs with responsible pricing and margin awareness.
- Clear and professional communication in person, by telephone and in writing.
- Composure and good judgment when customers, calls, appointments and shop questions require attention at the same time.
- Strong initiative: you notice what needs attention, establish priorities and follow through without waiting for every next task to be assigned.
- Accuracy with point-of-sale, scheduling, quoting, work-order and customer-record systems.
- A team-oriented attitude, respect for established processes and the maturity to accept coaching and share improvement ideas constructively.
What success looks like
- Customers receive a clear, knowledgeable recommendation and feel confident in their purchase.
- Quotes and promised follow-ups are completed consistently and documented properly.
- Appointments, work orders, vehicle details and storage information are accurate.
- The front counter remains organized and customers are acknowledged and informed, even during peak periods.
- You contribute strong sales and gross-margin results while protecting customer trust and the company's reputation.
Compensation and schedule
- Guaranteed hourly rate based on relevant experience and demonstrated ability.
- Monthly performance bonus that recognizes a balanced combination of sales, gross margin, quote follow-up, accuracy and customer feedback.
- Expected total annual compensation of approximately $75,000+ at target performance, depending on base rate, hours worked and results.
- Full-time weekday schedule with rotating Saturdays.
- Additional hours during the spring and fall tire seasons, with greater scheduling flexibility during slower periods.
Why join Ted's Tire Discounter?
- Join a stable, established independent company with a strong base of repeat customers.
- Work from our one of our two locations in Guelph with an experienced team and well-defined service processes.
- Earn a strong guaranteed wage with meaningful performance-based upside.
- Have the autonomy to use your judgment within clear guidelines and the opportunity to grow into greater leadership roles.
- Be part of a workplace where product knowledge, initiative, sound decisions and strong results are recognized.
How to apply
Please submit your resume along with a short note describing the tire or automotive sales work you have handled, how your results were measured and what you believe separates a trusted advisor from someone who simply provides a quote.
