Duties
Provides semi-skilled and general maintenance, repair, building, inspections and installation services for the Parks Canada Agency.

Intent of the process
A list of qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions within Parks Canada Agency, whose tenure could vary depending on the position being staffed (i.e. determinate period or indeterminate) and whose language requirements, linguistic profiles and security requirements could also vary.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education:
  • Successful completion of Grade Twelve or a Public Service Commission approved alternatives, or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.
Degree equivalency

Experience:
  • Experience in a full spectrum of maintenance, repair and construction related to buildings.
  • Extensive experience in plumbing, heating, electrical repairs.
  • Extensive experience in carpentry, framing, roofing, and shop finish work.

Additional Qualifications *:
  • Preference may be given to those with journeyman status in one of the building trades or with equivalent work experience.
Additional Qualifications *:
  • Experience in concrete forming & pouring.
  • Experience in welding/fabrication work.
  • Experience performing building/structure/equipment related inspections.
  • Additional qualifications are not essential to the job, but would be an asset in carrying out the duties of the position. They may be used in screening, assessment or determining right fit for this competition.
Operational Requirements
  • A Parks Canada Agency uniform, as prescribed for the position, must be worn at all times while performing the duties of the position unless otherwise specifically directed by the Superintendent.
  • Must be prepared to work weekends, shift work, overtime and statutory holidays as scheduled.
  • Must wear safety equipment as identified by Supervisor.
  • Parks Canada prohibits smoking in the workplace.
  • Willingness to work in variable and adverse weather conditions.
  • May be required to undergo and pass pre-placement and periodic medical checks.
  • Willingness to obtain certification in the operation of equipment, as required.
  • Must be willing to complete any training that pertains to the job.
  • It is mandatory that all persons newly appointed from outside the Public Service agree to have their pay deposited directly to a Financial Institution of their choice and to provide the information required for this purpose.
  • Perform physical tasks as per the job requirements; which may include climbing ladders, working in confined spaces, and lifting and carrying up to 25 kg repetitively.
Conditions of employment
  • Obtain and maintain a reliability security clearance.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Driver’s License, or equivalent, throughout your employment.
