JOB PURPOSE:
The Environment, Health and Safety (E.H.S.) Director provides oversight as well the development, implementation and monitoring of the site’s environmental, health and safety programs in order to adequately protect the health & safety of Piramal Healthcare (Canada) employees, the Community and the environment as well as meet all relevant legislation.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop, implement and sustain a pro-active Quality Culture
- Initiate and coordinate activities relating to compliance with environment, health and safety legislation.
- Manage department financial budget
- Advise senior managers on priority E.H.S. issues
- Establish E.H.S. management programs & procedures, coordinate and follow up on their implementation
- Develop, implement and manage comprehensive E.H.S. audit programs to ensure that Piramal Healthcare (Canada) is in compliance with relevant legislation, guidelines and accepted industry practices
- Co-chair the Joint Health & Safety Committee
- Coordinate and maintain the facility’s fire plan and first aid program
- Develop, implement and coordinate the spills response plan and team
- Coordinate the emergency response plans
- Develop, deliver and evaluate E.H.S. training
- Lead and promote behaviour based safety program
- Lead Piramal Healthcare (Canada) in related industry associations (e.g Workplace Safety & Prevention Services)
- Liase with the Piramal Healthcare’s E.H.S. group (i.e. participate in corporate programs, provide reports)
- Prepare, maintain and analyse site E.H.S. statistics and reports including recommendations for improvements
- Coordinate and provide safety resources (e.g. training material, topics) for departmental safety meetings
- Establish and maintain linkages with external resources in industry and government agencies
- Mentor and develop E.H.S Associate
EDUCATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL ATTAINMENT:
- B.Sc. degree, preferably within Engineering or Chemistry
- Registration with a professional organization such as the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals; Professional designation (e.g. CRSP) is an asset
- Health and Safety certification (WSIB)
MINIMUM JOB RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE :
- 10+ years experience. Significant related experience in a leadership position involving E.H.S., preferably within the pharmaceutical industry
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Advanced skills, knowledge and understanding of E.H.S. requirements in a chemical environment
- Pharmaceutical industry knowledge of manufacturing capabilities, particularly related to early stage development of API and intermediates under a cGMP environment.
- Operational leadership knowledge and skills
- Strong project management knowledge and skills
- In-depth knowledge of related E.H.S. legislation
- Skills in training development and delivery
