We are seeking an experienced and motivated individual to lead our client accounting services team and support a divers portfolio of small business clients.
In this challenging role, you will be responsible for:
- Developing and maintaining strong client relationships while serving as a trusted advisor on bookkeeping and accounting processes.
- Supervising, mentoring, and supporting junior bookkeeping staff while promoting quality, efficiency, and professional growth.
- Leveraging cloud-based accounting technologies, including QuickBooks Online, XERO, Dext, Hubdoc, payroll platforms, and other business applications, to automate processes and improve client service.
- Resolving complex bookkeeping issues, completing historical account cleanups, and performing account reconciliations.
- Overseeing the preparation and filing of GST/HST returns, payroll remittances, and other government filings while ensuring compliance with reporting deadlines.
- Coordinating annual T4 and WHSCC filings for our client base.
- Reviewing full-cycle bookkeeping work, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank and credit card reconciliations, payroll processing, and journal entries.
- Managing workflow allocation, monitoring deadlines, and reviewing client files to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Preparing month-end and year-end working papers, trial balances, and financial reporting packages for review by our accounting and tax professionals.
- Onboarding new bookkeeping clients, implementing cloud-based accounting solutions, and helping clients adopt efficient accounting processes while identifying opportunities for our firm to better support their needs.
Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes:
- Minimum of 3 – 5 years of full-cycle bookkeeping, preferably within a CPA firm
- Advanced proficiency and experience with Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Outlook, Co-Pilot; QuickBooks Online, and Xero accounting, as well as other cloud-based solutions including DEXT, Hubdoc, etc.
- Strong understanding of Canadian payroll requirements, GST/HST compliance, and small business accounting practices.
- Previous experience reviewing work, managing workflows, mentoring staff, or leading a bookkeeping team would be considered an asset.
- Certified Professional Bookkeeper (CPB) designation and QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor Advanced certification would be considered an asset.
- Strong self-management skills with the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and to meet critical deadlines
- Great communication skills and ability to work well with clients and colleagues
