Forestry and Parks - Responsible for growing our manufactured wood products and forestry sector, preserving, and managing our public lands and protected areas. We are currently looking for enthusiastic a self-motivated individual that has a passion for the outdoors to fill the Recreation Infrastructure Planner position in Calgary. You will be part of a fast-paced, dynamic team, focused on planning but supporting related work. This position will be required for at least three years.
Reporting to the Recreation Management Specialist, this position supports recreation infrastructure initiatives on Crown Land in the eastern slopes of Alberta, for the purposes of developing safe, sustainable, recreation infrastructure and increasing outdoor-recreation as well as nature-based tourism opportunities on a multiple use landscape.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Developing recreation infrastructure plans for capital funding on a working landscape.
- Developing concept plans and related mapping.
- Conducting fieldwork for site evaluations, collecting project-specific information, and aligning with policy and technical advice.
- Developing and maintaining a working relationship with the local operations team and recreation partners.
- Conducting First Nations and stakeholder consultation as required.
- Supporting and contributing to operations projects and partnership projects throughout the region.

Requirements:
- A completed university degree in Natural Resources, Outdoor Recreation, Land Management, Landscape Architecture, or other relevant fields.
- Minimum 2 years of related experience in areas such as capital planning or outdoor recreation planning.
- A valid Class 5 Driver’s License (or equivalent).
- First Aid certification (CPR Level C).
- Defensive driving certificate.
Equivalencies may be considered: Additional related education considered in lieu of experience, one year of education for one year of experience.
Assets:
- Working knowledge and experience with Alberta crown land management, natural resource management and relevant legislation and regulations.
- Experience with Microsoft Office and ArcGIS.
- Experience in partnership coordination, contract management, and project coordination.
- Track record of working with stakeholders, municipal governments, and Indigenous communities.
- Outdoor skills and experience in outdoor activities (navigation skills, backcountry travel, working alone).
- Bear Awareness training, and ATV/UTV training.
