POSITION SUMMARY

The role of the Driver Manager is to provide ongoing management and support to owner operators (contractors). This is a key role that manages the performance of owner operators and ensures CPX is a preferred entity for owner operators to contract with. The Manager ensures these independent contractors meet the service levels required by their agreements and is the sole individual responsible for the termination of a contractor service agreement. The Manager maintains regular contractor communications providing information and resolving any issues or concerns. The Manager works closely with dispatch and operations teams, as those teams provide day to day operational co-ordination with the owner operator.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Leads and promotes a culture where Health & Safety is the #1 priority. Provides leadership and support for Health & Safety initiatives throughout VTS and VersaCold.
Establishes and maintains positive working relationships and open, timely two-way communications with drivers and internal colleagues, resolves issues and provides performance feedback, terminating agreements where required.
Monitors, measures, coaches and develops drivers and owner operators, ensures adherence to policies and procedures, provides recognition, evaluates and provides feedback on performance, addresses performance concerns and resolves problems.
Works with compliance and drivers to ensure all standards, policies and procedures are compliant.
Identifies and works with cargo claims, fleet, maintenance to resolve issues between contractors and the company.
Uses judgment to make sound business decisions that deliver positive results.
Ensures high rates of contractor performance and in return ensures contractors receive sufficient miles and quality of work.
Provides leadership, coaching and advice to the contractor.
Holds communication sessions with contractors to update them on information.
Key performance metrics include;
Safety and Injury frequencies
Contractor miles analysis to ensure a reasonable level of payment
Contractor turnover
On time performance
Vehicle Breakdown statistics
KEY REQUIREMENTS

College Diploma or University Degree required
5+ years in a Dispatching or Human Resources Management role in transportation
Commitment to health and safety in the workplace
Proven ability to direct a team working in a fast-paced transportation environment to ensure accuracy, compliance, and a team culture of excellence.
Progressive knowledge in transportation operations and human resources
Excellent analytical and excel skills
Experience in positively engaging, leading and coaching a contractor team that works independently and at a distance. Ability to understand driver needs and resolve issues.
Takes initiative to prioritize workload; demonstrates critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making ability to evaluate issues and propose solutions
Superior communication skills; written and verbal
Results oriented individual who thrives working in a fast pace progressive environment
Sound experience showing fast response time, consistency and success
Superior partnership skills and ability to influence decisions
