Overview
Galaxie Signs is seeking an experienced Vinyl & Wayfinding, ADA Technician to join our production team. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with strong large format printing, signage production, and finishing experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate, print-ready production files (nest files, bleed, resolution, color profiles, fonts)
- Operate and maintain large format equipment, including:
- Roll-to-roll printers
- HP Latex printers
- Mimaki UV flatbed printers (3D / layered tactile printing)
- Vinyl cutters, plotters, and laminators
- Operate RIP software including Onyx and Flexi
- Produce and apply vinyl graphics (print, weed, laminate, install-ready)
- Work with a variety of materials including cast, calendared, frosted, reflective, and specialty films
- Produce braille and tactile signage (ADA experience required)
- Read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints, and wayfinding packages
- Manage color consistency using RIP software and color workflows
- Perform daily machine maintenance and ensure optimal performance
- Collaborate with production and installation teams to meet deadlines and quality standards
- Prepare samples to exact client specifications and maintain solid record keeping for future production runs
- Assemble intricate plaques
- Accurately track work orders and allocate work to department staff
- Collate signage jobs for installation
Qualifications
- Experience in a sign shop, print shop, or large format production environment
- Strong knowledge of vinyl materials, substrates, and signage production methods
- Hands-on experience with HP Latex and Mimaki UV flatbed printing
- Experience with tactile and layered printing applications
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat)
- Experience using RIP software including Onyx and Flexi
- Solid understanding of file setup, large format printing, and finishing processes
- Experience with file formats (PDF, TIFF, EPS) and color management workflows
- Ability to manage multiple projects with strong attention to detail
- Solid understanding of installation techniques
Preferred Skills
- Experience with wayfinding systems and large-scale signage projects
- Knowledge of substrates such as acrylic, aluminum, and composites
- Experience producing window, wall, and vehicle graphics
Please Note:
This is a hands-on production role, not a graphic design, marketing, packaging, or offset printing position. We are seeking candidates with direct, hands-on experience in large format signage production, including operating HP Latex and Mimaki UV printers, RIP software (Onyx and/or Flexi), vinyl production, ADA/tactile signage, and sign shop production processes.
While graphic design, prepress, and Adobe Creative Cloud experience are valuable assets, they do not replace the required production experience. Applicants whose experience is primarily in graphic design, marketing, packaging, prepress, or commercial offset printing, without hands-on large format signage production experience, will not be considered.
Salary: Starting at $30+/hour (based on experience)
