What We're Looking For
At Northern, our most valuable asset is our team of hard-working, dedicated employees. The HR Generalist is responsible for supporting Northern's HR strategy and growth. In this role, you will join a team of two HR professionals and will report to the HR Manager to support the growth and development of our team. The HR Generalist is a hands-on, passionate individual with experience working in flexible environments, building and creating employee resources and programs, and providing support to all levels of an organization. As an HR Generalist, you will collaborate with a dynamic team, staying focused on the HR departmental goals, while supporting the organization's needs. This role will support and engage in short-term solutions to best serve our people, while preparing for long-term growth.

Knowledge and understanding of an agency environment and experience working at an organization with a strong company culture is an asset and will best support you in your role.

Duties & Responsibilities
Lead processes relating to the complete employee life cycle including performance management, internal promotions, leaves of absence and employee departures
Provide guidance and resolutions to managers on employee relations situations, such as employee coaching and performance management
Provide insights and suggestions for improvement for our internal HR management software based on the needs of the business and employees
Support and be a project lead on the roll out of various Human Resources programs/initiatives
Lead and support day-to-day full-cycle recruitment efforts, including; proactively seeking out passive candidates, job posting creation, phone screens, in-person interviews, coordination and collaboration with hiring team, and extending offers of employment to selected candidates
Coordinate and deliver internal training where applicable
Support Northern's employee base by providing support, guidance and interpretation of policy and procedures, as needed
Support the HR Manager with the creation, rollout and ongoing management of HR programs, as well as the continuous improvement of existing programs
Other ad hoc duties, as required

Knowledge, Education & Experience Required
CHRP designation (or in progress) is considered an asset
Undergraduate University Degree or College Diploma in a related field (eg. Business, Organizational Leadership, Psychology, Communications, Human Resources, or comparative area of study)
3 - 5 years of human resources experience, with a focus in employee relations
Knowledgeable in Canadian employment legislation and human resources processes and best practices
Experience in recruiting tech talent and hiring for a rapidly growing business is considered an asset
Proven ability to apply creativity, innovation and resourcefulness to daily work
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational management skills
Excellent priority setting skills with the flexibility and adaptability to respond to shifting business needs
Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment along with the aptitude to prioritize multiple responsibilities and deadlines
Demonstrates high integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism
