As we continue to grow, we are seeking an experienced and motivated Mason Foreman to lead our masonry crews and oversee the successful execution of projects. Position Overview
The Mason Foreman will be responsible for supervising masonry crews, coordinating daily site activities, ensuring projects are completed safely and efficiently, and maintaining the highest standards of workmanship. The ideal candidate will have extensive masonry experience, strong leadership skills, and a proven ability to manage crews, schedules, and project quality.
This role requires a hands-on leader who can actively participate in masonry work while directing and supporting team members on-site.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise masonry crews on commercial, residential, and heritage restoration projects
- Coordinate daily work activities to ensure projects are completed on schedule and within quality standards
- Perform and oversee masonry work involving brick, block, natural stone, and manufactured stone
- Read and interpret drawings, specifications, and project documents
- Complete and supervise layout, cutting, shaping, carving, pointing, and installation of masonry materials
- Ensure all masonry work is completed in accordance with project specifications and company standards
- Plan manpower, equipment, and material requirements to maintain productivity and efficiency
- Monitor project progress and proactively identify and resolve site challenges
- Train, mentor, and support apprentices and less experienced crew members
- Promote and maintain a positive, professional, and team-oriented work environment
- Communicate effectively with project managers, clients, subcontractors, and other trades
- Oversee heritage restoration work while ensuring compliance with conservation standards and best practices
- Ensure proper use, maintenance, and care of tools, equipment, and machinery
- Maintain accurate daily records, site reports, site photos, and production updates
- Enforce all company safety policies and site-specific safety requirements
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Continuously seek opportunities to improve productivity, workflow, and quality on-site
Qualifications
- Minimum 5–10 years of masonry experience
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience leading crews or working in a supervisory role
- Strong proficiency in brick, block, stone installation, pointing, cutting, shaping, and finishing
- Experience with new CMU block and brick construction
- Heritage restoration experience is strongly preferred
- Familiarity with lime mortars, historic masonry materials, and restoration techniques is an asset
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain project schedules
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Strong commitment to quality craftsmanship and attention to detail
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Physically capable of performing demanding work in varying outdoor conditions
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Additional masonry, construction management, leadership, or heritage conservation training is considered an asset
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required
- Portfolio of completed masonry or restoration projects is highly beneficial
