We are currently seeking full-time 2nd - 4th year Millwright Apprentices to join our team of skilled professionals at our Brampton, ON location. This state of the art manufacturing plant produces premium roofing shingles in a high speed, continuous, asphalt shingle manufacturing process environment.
Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Apprentice will be expected to participate in all areas of the shop and be willing to learn and apply new skills. The position will maintain production and quality by ensuring operation of machinery and mechanical equipment.
Attend trade school as required
Attend safety training courses and crew meetings
Housekeeping E.g. Keep maintenance shop clean and clean up after all jobs
Paint equipment where required
Operate a lift truck where required
Perform welding and cutting where required
Machine work, using drill press, bandsaw, lathe, milling machine, grinder
Perform required work with hand tools, such as air guns, electric shears, hand grinder, screw drivers, wrenches, hammers, etc.
Remove, Install or rebuild parts. E.g. Bearings, pumps, gear boxes, clutches, etc.
Read blue prints
Operate Air compressor
General maintenance repairs. Preventative maintenance
Troubleshoot and repair machinery equipment
Install machinery and equipment
Work on hot oil, steam and air lines and hot oil boilers and steam generators
Any other duties assigned by the supervisor
To be eligible:
Be physically able to perform all related work loads
Meets all Government requirements to be eligible for the Maintenance Millwright program
Has passed company standard aptitude and mechanical test
Exposure with mechanical devices, pneumatic controls and welding/cutting
Experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred
Must be able to read mechanical drawings
Must be able to work shifts as well as some extended hours and weekends
Good interpersonal and problem solving skills
Must possess superior analytical and troubleshooting skills
Excellent communication and organizational skills are essential
Ability to manage time effectively while handling multiple jobs with varying priorities
Must be able to work in a team setting with other tradesman
Wages & Apprentice Levels:
Level 3 : $27.71 per hour. This is 89% of minimum starting rate of Maintenance "A"(excluding the trade premium). 4,000 hours minimum shop time or accredited hours recognized by the Ministry of Education and the Company. A passing grade in the first year and enrolled in the second year of Apprenticeship School.
Level 4 : $28.64 per hour. This is 92% of minimum starting rate of Maintenance "A" (excluding the trade premium). 6,000 hours minimum shop time or accredited hours recognized by the Ministry of Education and the Company. A passing grade in the second year and enrolled in the third year of Apprenticeship School.
Level 5 : $29.57 per hour. This is 95% of minimum starting rate of Maintenance "A" (excluding the trade premium). 8,000 hours minimum shop time or accredited hours recognized by the Ministry of Education and the Company. A passing grade in the third year Apprenticeship School.
Certificate: A qualified maintenance person who has an Ontario Certificate in a recognized trade or equivalent recognized by the Ministry of Education and the Company.
