Overview
The accountant supports the day-to-day and month-end accounting activities for multiple related branches across Canada and the US. The role is primarily responsible for account reconciliations, loan and interest accounting, intercompany transactions, fixed assets, prepaid expenses, payment processing, tax filings, and maintaining accurate month-end working papers.
This position is well suited to someone who is comfortable managing recurring accounting deadlines, working across multiple sets of books, and following transactions through to reconciliation.
Key Responsibilities
Daily & Month-End Accounting
- Post and apply customer payments and follow up on unreconciled transactions.
- Complete monthly bank and credit card reconciliations.
- Prepare and update month-end working papers and supporting schedules.
- Record recurring and month-end journal entries.
- Review assigned accounts and investigate reconciliation differences.
- Assist with month-end close for the entities.
Loans & Interest
- Calculate and record interest on shareholder loans, third-party loans, and promissory notes.
- Maintain supporting loan and interest schedules.
- Coordinate recurring monthly and quarterly interest and promissory note payments.
- Process or coordinate payments by cheque, ACH, or electronic transfer.
Intercompany Accounting
- Record intercompany invoices, expenses, payments, and loan-account transactions.
- Reconcile intercompany balances between related entities.
- Record expenses paid by one entity on behalf of another.
- Account for foreign exchange on intercompany balances where applicable.
Fixed Assets & Prepaids
- Record new fixed assets and post monthly depreciation.
- Maintain prepaid expense schedules, including insurance and other prepaid expenses.
- Prepare the related monthly journal entries and reconciliations.
Banking, Credit Cards & Payments
- Reconcile bank, credit card, and payment-platform transactions.
- Record payments associated with corporate credit cards and payment platforms.
- Prepare applicable credit card accruals.
- Maintain monthly bank statements and payment reports.
- Investigate and resolve outstanding or unreconciled transactions.
Other Accounting Responsibilities
- Record and maintain profit-share expenses based on calculations provided by management.
- Prepare recurring invoices and record expenses for smaller related entities.
- Prepare periodic GST, PST, and other assigned routine filings.
- Assist with cash flow reporting and basic financial dashboards where required.
- Prepare and organize accounting documentation for external accountants at year-end.
- Complete other related accounting duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 2–4 years of accounting experience preferred.
- Practical experience with month-end accounting and account reconciliations.
- Experience with intercompany transactions, loans, or multi-entity accounting is an asset.
- Experience preparing GST/PST or similar indirect tax filings is an asset.
- Strong Excel skills and experience working with accounting software.
- Experience with Odoo or other ERP/accounting systems is an asset.
Skills & Attributes

- Able to manage multiple recurring deadlines.
- Organized and comfortable working across multiple entities, jurisdictions, and accounts.
- Able to investigate discrepancies and follow them through to resolution.
- Comfortable working independently while coordinating with other members of the Finance team.
- Professional and discreet when handling confidential financial information.
