This position is open to all UFV ‘B’ faculty members within the Faculty of Applied and Technical Studies.
The Faculty of Applied and Technical Studies is made of four program clusters: A School of Trades, Technology Programs, Physics and Engineering, and Industry Services. Under the direction of the Dean, The Associate Dean of Faculty will assist the Faculty of Applied and Technical Studies to attain UFV’s Strategic, Education and Foundation Plans.
The Associate Dean of Faculty will:
Cultivate and support faculty success as the basis for providing the best under graduate education in Canada;
Support faculty to become excellent teachers, academic and professional citizens, and scholars;
Support the Dean with hiring, probationary evaluations and rank and tenure applications;
Assume responsibility for reviewing faculty expertise and performance with respect to teaching, scholarship and service and support improvement goals;
Support and review faculty members’ annual workload plans and faculty scholarship and sabbatical applications and reports;
Work closely with the Dean, the Director of the School of Trades, Department Heads, Program Heads, Operations Manager and the Director of Industry Services;
Liaise with administrators and all divisions responsible for faculty development and review;
Encourage and support faculty in developing their academic and professional leadership abilities;
Provide leadership on institutional committees;
Develop and support International education opportunities; and
Work closely with the Dean to address student issues.
The successful candidate will be able to provide evidence of:
A minimum of three years’ successful administration experience at the post-secondary level;
Knowledge of and experience with academic governance;
Excellent communications skills;
Experience in promoting and evaluating professional development;
Knowledge of the Collective Agreement and, preferably, experience with labour relations;
Active engagement in curricular development;
Mentorship and the sharing of best teaching practices;
Distinguished achievement in the discipline and/or scholarship on teaching practice; and
Substantial leadership contributions in service.
