Purpose of Position:
The Sanitation Supervisory Position will ensure that the sanitation activities at Highland Fisheries remain in compliance with regulatory guidelines, and stride for excellence in keeping with the Clearwater Corporate Mission Statement. This position will fill the need for supervision relating to the day shift and night shift sanitation activities and employees at Highland Fisheries.
Responsibilities:
- Personal development / dedication to continuous learning in the area of cleaning methods, chemical application and waste management.
- Scheduling and directing the work flow of sanitation activities in all areas / departments of Highland Fisheries.
- Training / coaching sanitation employees commensurate to the specific job functions.
- Participating in internal and external audits.
- Measuring and Evaluation of Micro and ATP swabbing results.
- Documentation and maintenance of sanitation related documents and records.
- Trouble shooting and root cause analysis to ensure sanitation activities are achieving the highest standards.
- Evaluation of chemical consumption and development of chemical reduction /efficiency strategies.
- HACCP Team Member.
- Recall / Crisis Team Member.
- OH&S Team Member .
- Ensuring compliance with food safety legislation.
- Staying current with regulatory compliance regulations relating to sanitation.
- Ensuring the proper handling and disposal of waste materials.
- Liaise with chemical contractors to ensure optimal performance of sanitation activities.
Reporting Structure:
This position has the following positions reporting to it: 4-8 staff including Lead Hand
Responsibilities:
- Record Keeping - supervision of pre-operation inspections.
- Internal auditing.
- Participation in 3rd party and regulatory audits.
- Micro/ATP swabbing and maintenance of records.
- Completion of corrective action forms.
- Scheduling Sanitation Activities(timelines) - communication with production management.
- Ensure OH&S guidelines are strictly adhered to.
- Maintenance of WHMIS records.
- Ensuring adherence to company GMPs and HACCP policies and procedures.
- Entering data into computerized sanitation system.
- Maintenance and development of sanitation schedule.
- Hire and train sanitation employees.
- Evaluate sanitation employee performance.
- Entering payroll information into computerized payroll system.
- Implement and train for adequate succession for absence.
- Develop procedures related to sanitation functions.
- Waste management.
- Pest Control monitoring for effectiveness.
- Other related duties as required.

Working Conditions:
- Location: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia (Highland Fisheries)
- Travel: minimal
- Physical Demands: Lift up to 50 lbs, have respirator fit testing
- Environment: Plant Environment, Cold and Wet Conditions
- Schedule: 40 hours per week with overtime and weekends as required
Qualifications:
- Minimum of Grade 12
- Minimum of 3 Years Experience Supervising Sanitation Activities in Food Production or Related Environment
- Strong Knowledge of chemical application and sanitation processes
- Strong Computer skills ie. (excel/word)
- Understanding of HACCP/ GMPs/OH&S systems
Assets:
- Degree or Diploma in Food Science related discipline
- WHMIS Certificate
