Client Events & Services
Beyond The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth, Stampede Park hosts more than 1,200 business, tourism, sporting, hospitality, and community events every year, welcoming more than two million guests from every corner of the world. The $500M BMO Centre expansion will be a catalyst to transform the city into a tier one convention city and provide state-of-the-art facilities for our community and guests from around the world.
Position Summary
The Manager, Event Management is responsible for leading the team dedicated to pre-event event planning for our valued clients. This position is critical to the successful execution of events in a fast-paced environment with dedicated attention on detailed and seamless event planning using a project management approach to set operational teams up for success. This role incorporates insights from client feedback in making recommendations for future improvements in event delivery. The Manager, Event Management is a member of a multi-faceted team responsible for providing service excellence with superior professionalism.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
Leadership
- Leading and supporting the team by providing clear, consistent communication and encouragement.
- Developing team members into subject matter experts by investing in development opportunities that elevate their knowledge and skill set.
- Hiring, training, scheduling, coaching, performance management and providing day to day leadership to the team.
- Leading by example at all times while contributing to the overall goals and objectives of the organization and delivering on the expectations of our customers.
- Implementing strategies determined by the leadership team.
- Ensuring financial and operational accountability for department and event budgets.
- Demonstrating emotional composure during fast paced and stressful situations.
- Providing oversight and managing the day to day operations of the event management team.
- Act as a member of the BMO Centre leadership team and contribute to the development of strategic and operational initiatives through collaborative team work.
- Being involved in the local and national events industry, developing relationships with key members of the industry, and maintaining a positive reputation as a collaborator and subject matter expert.
Event Management
- Balancing client needs with the achievability of event logistics and venue standards.
- Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement in event delivery through the evaluation of client feedback and BMO Centre management observations.
- Taking initiative to find and implement effective solutions to address event experience opportunities, including the development of standard operating procedures.
- Facilitating problem solving & conflict resolution with attendees, exhibitors, clients, suppliers, employees, and stakeholders in order to achieve successful event execution and guest experience.
- Coordinating communication and efforts with all employees & suppliers towards the goal of providing the highest level of service excellence through consistent, accurate and ongoing communication.
Event Operations
- Enforcing venue standards and regulations as a member of the BMO Centre management team.
- Providing leadership and oversight to fulfillment teams and suppliers as required.
- Keeping service excellence top of mind in the planning of event requirements.
- Ensuring event safety regulations are communicated and planned accordingly.
- Providing planning and event execution support for Stampede time initiatives.
Administration
- Systems superuser for Ungerboeck and Floor Plan systems.
- Utilizing Ungerboeck to review and analyze information in reports.
- Producing reports for leadership as required.
- Regular review and analysis of guest feedback.
- Cascading all relevant information to the team to ensure seamless events.
- Contributing to the design and implementation of event business processes that will elevate experience and create efficiencies within the team.
- Performing regular audits of quality assurance checks on event execution and documentation.
- Overseeing the development and maintenance of the guest experience resources within the document library.
- Participating in department and division planning meetings as required.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be proactive, optimistic and have worked in a dynamic environment where they have experience delivering on multiple priorities and will hold the following qualifications:
Education
- Completion of an undergraduate degree from an accredited university in business or hospitality preferred.
- Designation in a related industry program, e.g. PMP, CMP, CMM, etc.
Previous Experience
- A minimum of 5 years’ related management experience.
- Experience in the events industry with large-scale venue operations.
- Experience in some or all of the following: guest experience, event management, hotel management, catering, event technology and event/venue logistics.
- Experience in project management.
Practical and Technical Knowledge
- Knowledge of public safety, health and safety, event and venue logistics.
- Budgeting skills, with experience in establishing and maintaining financial controls as it relates to annual operating budgets.
- Ability to analyze the existing work force against current and future business needs to provide solutions to ensure labor optimization while meeting set service standards.
- Experience with Ungerboeck (EBMS) and floor plan systems considered an asset.
- Experience with MS Office, radios and tablets.
Planning, Organizational and Integrating Knowledge
- Demonstrate strategic and operational leadership with managerial insight in multiple areas to include; event management, process planning, facility operations, event production and industry knowledge.
- Perform effectively under significant pressure associated with the demands and timelines of the event industry and a complex workforce.
- Ability to apply analytical techniques to identify the root cause of a problem and find the best solution.
- Anticipates the risk or implications inherent in a suggested solution and develops contingency plans to mitigate their impacts.

- People leadership skills to include motivating a diverse full and part-time work force, volunteers, and partners.
- Relationship and change management skills with the ability to balance the needs of varied groups, while influencing a variety of stakeholders, e.g. employees, volunteers, suppliers, external partners, clients and guests.
