Chemical Waste Operator – Day Shift (Seasonal)
Location: Bellville, Ontario
Shift: Tuesday to Saturday, Day Shift
We are currently hiring Chemical Operator for the day shift in a seasonal role. This position supports hazardous and non‑hazardous waste processing operations at our Bellville facility and at community Household Hazardous Waste events.
Compensation:
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare shipments of hazardous and non‑hazardous waste for transport.
- Receive containerized client waste.
- Take samples from waste vehicles and containers for lab analysis.
- Depack and consolidate smaller waste containers into larger bulk containers based on characteristics (e.g., cleaning products, oils, flammables, glycols, pesticides).
- Ensure waste is processed safely and in a timely manner.
- Follow all safety procedures and operational protocols.
- Complete required paperwork accurately and submit as directed.
- Conduct job hazard and risk assessments.
- Provide professional customer service at all times.
- Report defects, damages, contamination, spills, or incidents to the Shift Supervisor/General Manager.
- Attend Household Hazardous Waste collection events to identify, classify, and separate waste; prepare manifest documents for transport back to the facility.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate effectively in English.
- Comfortable working weekend shifts (primarily Saturdays; 2–3 Sunday events per season).
- Degree or Diploma in Chemistry, Chemical Technology, Environmental Technology, or equivalent.
- Familiarity with Ontario Regulation 347 and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) is an asset.
- Previous hazardous or non‑hazardous waste management experience is an asset.
- Mechanical aptitude and comfort using hand tools is an asset.
- Motivated, able to multi‑task, and effective in a team environment.
- Strong safety awareness and attention to detail.
- Comfortable working in a mostly outdoor environment year‑round.
- Must be willing and able to report to work clean‑shaven (respirator safety requirement).
- Ability to follow procedures and work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to repetitively lift 40 lbs above waist height.
Pay: $21.00-$22.00 per hour
